The Eagles: Bernie Leadon (vocals, electric & steel guitars, banjo, mandolin); Don Felder (vocals, electric & slide guitars); Glenn Frey (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Randy Meisner (vocals, bass); Don Henley (vocals, drums, percussion). Recorded at Mac Emmerman's Criteria Studios, Miami, Florida. The Eagles recorded their albums relatively quickly in their first years of existence, their LPs succeeding each other by less than a year. One of These Nights, their fourth album, was released in June 1975, more than 14 months after its predecessor. Anticipation had been heightened by the belated chart-topping success of the third album's "The Best of My Love"; taking a little more time, the band generated more original material, and that material was more polished. More than ever, the Eagles seemed to be a vehicle for Don Henley (six co-writing credits) and Glenn Frey (five), but at the same time, Randy Meisner was more audible than ever, his two lead vocals including one of the album's three hit singles, "Take It to the Limit," and Bernie Leadon had two showcases, among them the cosmic-cowboy instrumental "Journey of the Sorcerer" (later used as the theme music for the British television series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). Nevertheless, it was the team of Henley and Frey that stood out, starting with the title track, a number one single, which had more of an R&B -- even a disco -- sound than anything the band had attempted previously, and continuing through the ersatz Western swing of "Hollywood Waltz" to "Lyin' Eyes," one of Frey's patented folk-rock shuffles, which became another major hit. One of These Nights was the culmination of the blend of rock, country, and folk styles the Eagles had been making since their start; there wasn't much that was new, just the same sorts of things done better than they had been before. In particular, a lyrical stance -- knowing and disillusioned, but desperately hopeful -- had evolved, and the musical arrangements were tighter and more purposeful. The result was the Eagles' best-realized and most popular album so far. ~ William Ruhlmann This marked the transition from a nifty country rock band to a rock combo with the potential for world domination. The music was a tad sweeter and less ironic, a morsel rockier with Top 40 friendliness. Tracks such as 'Take It To The Limit' and 'Lyin' Eyes' have been played far too much on the radio. They need to be rested in place of Bernie Leadon's unusual instrumental, 'Journey Of The Sorcerer' (used as the theme to BBC Television's Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy), or the other great Leadon song, 'I Wish You Peace'. Financially, the Eagles never looked back after this, but the critical snipers were out in force.

Eagles One Of These Nights Songs One Of These Nights Music One Of These Nights Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Most Creative Eagles Set...Ever This album was from a time back when the Eagles had substance & creativity. "The Long Run" was the beginning of the end of the "old" Eagles sound & they became a different band from that point forward. This is still one of my favorite albums of all time, and "Journey of the Sorcerer" is a fantastic example of the long ballads played on FM album rock stations back in the day. Unforgettable album I fully agree with 'Mark in Wichita' about this album. It's The Best Of The Best. All songs are carefully done. It's a jewel that if you like the great years of pop/rock music you can't leave to have.

The Eagles best album by far!!! What's going on!!! Only one person has reviewed this awesome classic album!!! I know everybody say's "HOTEL CALIFORNIA" is their best record, but this is by far the better one. I know everybody like's the songs "lyin' eyes", "take it to the limit", and "One of these nights", but there are other, just as worthy songs too. Try also to listen to "journey of the sorcerer", "too many hands", "visions", and I what maybe my favorite song "I wish you peace", which touches my very soul. Come on people, start getting your reviews in on this great album!!!!!!!!! Submitted by Mark (Wichita,KS,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Atmosphere When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That S**T Gold CD (2008)
One Of These Nights
$12.25 Personnel: Nate Collis (vocals, guitar); Joe Mabbott (vocals, percussion); Tunde Adebimpe, Anthony Davis , Mankwe Ndosi (vocals); Dustin Kiel (lap steel guitar); Rajiah Johnson (flute); Kyle Borchert (trumpet); Scotty Rapp (synthesizer); Brett Johnson (bass guitar); Brian McCleod (drums). Audio Mixer: Joe Mabbott. Recording information: Hidaway, Minneapolis-Saint Paul, MN. Illustrator: MK Larada. The Minneapolis-based duo and indie rap heroes known as Atmosphere (Slug on the mic, Ant on the beats) is back with their sixth and arguably most daring LP, WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS. As usual, Slug spins compelling verses that range from hopeful and sensitive to aloof and cynical, while Ant elevates his production repertoire to new heights. Working largely in the familiar area of soul, jazz, and blues samples, the beatsmith also incorporates elements of pop-rock ("Dreamer" and "Guarantees") and new wave ("You"). WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS is a challenging effort from one of the most distinctive groups in hip-hop's underground. As the group that helped create the term "emo rap" and give Minnesota and Midwestern rap a place on the map, Atmosphere clearly feel a relative amount of freedom to express themselves however necessary on When Life ...
