Dark album Product Description
Metal Church's excellent debut had impressed critics and fans alike with its ferocious blend of classic metal and thrash. But by the time they released its follow-up, 1986's The Dark, the band seemed to be struggling with their direction and wrestling with internal problems. The fact that they were collectively one of the most unattractive bands ever (even by heavy metal standards) didn't help matters either, especially in image-conscious America, so it was no surprise when the band's appeal remained firmly confined to the metal underground. Which is too bad, since The Dark contained some of the group's best material, including the brutal intensity of "Start the Fire" and "Method to Your Madness," as well as what was probably their best-known song, the astoundingly heavy epic "Watch the Children Play." Extensive touring with Elektra labelmates Metallica had also motivated the band to develop their thrashier inclinations, resulting in vicious moshers like "Ton of Bricks" and "Over My Dead Body." ~ Eduardo Rivadavia.

| Great Album It was so difficult for me to hear this disc complete until I find it on cduniverse.com. After hearing I was a little bit dissapointed beacuse I found like 3 filler songs and those are the last ones. Hearing many classics as Ton of bricks, Start the Fire, The Dark, I thought that the album would be a complete onslaught, but it wasn't. The Riff of Psycho rules!!!. I think that this disc is not as good as the first one, because they change of producer. By max_cantu (Monterrey, México) |
| As hard as it gets from these days Mr Arrington on the drums is absolute fantastic. I,m so glad that I found this record (I only have it on LP) and I will play it again for many years to come. This is one of the best metal records ever made. By hakan.sandberg (Sweden) |
| Classic metal This cd is a must for anyone who loves straight forward and powerful rock and roll. A very well produced album from a very good group with no filler songs anywhere to be seen. Start the Fire sets heads a bangin', Ton of Bricks is a touch of speed metal perfected and Watch the Children Pray takes you for a ride ala Metallica's "One". By mbm2219 (Abbotsford,BC,CAN) |
| metal church rules!! i have to be totally honest i haven't heard any of their music ... Until i bought this album and WOW!! these guys rock. My favorites are "Start the fire", "watch the children pray", and the title track "The Dark'. and while reading the cover booklet i have found that they dedicated the album to the Late Great Cliff Burton of metallica fame. which was really cool. so if you love the Real heavy metal Movement of the 80's this album should and must be included in your collection, you will be glad you did. | Three And A Half, Please This is classic Metal Church, no getting around it, with some of their best tunes, like the breakneck "Ton of Bricks," the anthemic "Start The Fire," the epic "Watch the Children Pray" and the just-plain-nasty title track. A few others are good as well, like "Over my Dead Body" and "Psycho." But I dunno, no matter who's singing for this band, Metal Church's CD's (and I own several) just fail to hold my interest the whole way through. Here, my mind starts to wander somewhere during the last three songs. Still one of the band's essential albums though, but maybe not quite a sessential as the debut. By Fizz (Delmarva) |
