Product Description
When a genre-defining group like Metallica, whose past albums have rocked the charts with virtually no airplay, enlists the aid of a hit-making producer like Bob Rock, the result is bound to be monumental. METALLICA, their sixth studio release, surpasses all expectations. METALLICA is an extremely heavy album. It carries a presence, a huge, live sound different from that heard on their previous recordings. What once could not be tamed has been refined, resulting in a fuller, more powerful guitar sound in an already guitar-intensive band. They have evolved from the messy, unabashed thrashers of their youth into a more confident, poised and angry bunch, not only retaining their fire but stoking it into a chunky, tight-fisted maelstrom of scowling energy. Serious riffs provide punch and punctuation for James Hetfield's gruff vocals which rage against society and religion, and revel in suspicion and sarcasm. METALLICA is full of songs just as potent as the hugely popular "Enter Sandman," yet is not as complicated as their recent albums have seemed. ...See Full Description

| A good choice for the uninitiated I'm not a big Metallica fan, but I consider The Unforgiven to be one of the greatest metal songs of all time (if not one of the greatest rock songs of all time). It is my understanding that the majority of fans consider Master of Puppets to be the bands greatest achievement, however this disc is without a doubt a highpoint. | metallica fall from grace. I've been a metal fan since i was eight years old, thats twenty too years of listening to metal. This has to be the worst record ever.metallica did not try with this one. The black album song titles enter sandman, a mute person could come up with better titles.they lost their anger and aggression that metal should be. It is not a metal record. It was too commercial a money maker i blame lars for that a real metal record should blow you away heavy riffs double bass druming ect this record has nothing. metallica done this to themselfs as the song goes so close no matter how far well it was not close and it was far off the title of a metal record By tierneydeb (Dublin, Ireland) |
| It doesn't get any better This album is not only one of Metallica's best (my favorite), but also one of the best heavy metal albums ever, by anybody. Reading any negative reviews makes me laugh. There's more to great music and great metal than just speed. Metallica does it all here. If I could keep only one of my Metallica albums, (perish the thought!), it would be this one. | Heavier than Mt. Everest. While not the fastest album in their lineup, Metallica is probably the band's heaviest album. I don't know why some people call this pop metal. Apparently selling 10 million albums makes you a sellout. But, those people just ain't listening to the same album I've heard. Regardless of your music tastes, Metallica is a great album filled with many types of songs. The album's first track "Enter Sandman" will rip your head off. This is a fine example of what the metal genre is truly capable of when talent meets expectations. By StephenLP (Longview, TX, USA) |
| Strong Not their best. I think, with Mr. Bob Rock at the helm, something got lost in translation. I mean, the essence of Metallica was still present in 1991, but it wasn't a potent. I don't even know how to describe what it was, but they seemed to have lost some of their angst and darkness and agression. However, it is still a respectable album. It is obvious that their BLACK ALBUM compositions were sincere. They really had something to say and they meant it. By Ibex (Turo, ON) |
