Contains video clips of singles from EVERLASTING and GOOD TO BE BACK.
Before Natalie Cole reinvented herself as a jazz-based adult contemporary chanteuse, she had a successful career in the 1980s as a contemporary R&B singer. EVERLASTING, released in 1987, is one of her more adventurous and enjoyable releases from the period. Cole moves from dancefloor-ready funk ("Jump Start") to the Burt Bacharach ballad "Split Decision" with ease, sounding equally comfortable in both modes.
Included are two interesting covers, a lively version of Bruce Springsteen's "Pink Cadillac" and a lovely take on "When I Fall In Love," in which Cole gives tasteful tribute to her father's legacy. That the album covers so many stylistic bases should be a liability, but instead EVERLASTING comes across as a fun, varied, and surprisingly cohesive record.

Everlasting Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) A Hit Single and A "Jump Started" career! 2 words...JUMP START. This album would be her first successful album since 1979's gold "I Love You So." After that, there were a string of four very disappointing albums from Capitol to Epic/CBS and then Modern/Atlantic. This album takes the listener on a much happier journey and finds Natalie in very funky, friendly, sassy and renewed musical and vocal spirits! The first single, "Jump Start" produced by The Calloway Brothers (Midnight Star) has Natalie just throwin' down the funk, and it also threw down a #2 R&B hit single. It would have been nice to have seen her teamed up with the likes of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis or even Babyface, but y'know...for the produers she DID work with here, the results ARE "Everlasting" and the album would become certified Gold, making this her first of two successful, pre-Unforgettable outings. I highly recommend it. Submitted by Starrmann (Portland, ME, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Excellent Album All Around Natalie does an excellent job with this CD. Pink Cadillac is one of my favorites. I Live For Your Love is also a favorite. Natalie's vocals on this CD are the best ever. She is an excellent Rhythm and Blues vocalist. Submitted by jejr9 (Irvine) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Purchase Everlasting CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | General Public All The Rage CD (1984)
Everlasting album
$8.49 First out of the gate with a new band after the English Beat's acrimonious fracture in June 1983, General Public was the first post-punk supergroup, gathering the Beat's Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger, the Specials' Horace Panter, and other veterans of the U.K. ska revival. (Mick Jones, freshly booted from the Clash, was originally announced as General Public's lead guitarist; although he left the group very early on to start up Big Audio Dynamite and doesn't appear in the album photos, his guitar does appear on nearly all of the album's ten tracks.) Frankly, All the Rage could quite easily have been the fourth English Beat album, as it's a clear continuation from 1982's Special Beat Service. The ska sounds are largely absent, replaced by a mixture of catchy Brit-pop -- someone in the group is clearly a fan of both the Beatles and Elvis Costello & the Attractions -- and occasional reggae influences. The closing track, "General Public," is a sneering putdown of British politics and the attendant old boys network, the most political song the boys had written since the days of "Stand Down Margaret" and one of their most effective reggae tunes ever, with echoes of the threatening throb ...
| | Natalie Cole Snowfall On The Sahara CD (1999)
Everlasting CD music
$5.95 Principally recorded at Right Track Studios, New York, New York; Capitol Studios & Chartmaker Studios, Los Angeles, California.
Like fine wine, Natalie Cole improves with age. The masterful vocalist first achieved success via the R&B charts in the mid-'70s, but truly broke through with 1991's five-times-platinum UNFORGETTABLE WITH LOVE, in which she covered her father Nat "King" Cole's standards. On SNOWFALL, Natalie comes into her own as an artist. Her wonderful vocal range is showcased on some of her best material in years. Producer Phil Ramone adds his magic touch.
Ms. Cole's elegance is evident on "A Song for You" and "More Than You'll Ever Know". She gets gritty and soulful on "Reverend Lee" and "Corinna," while the title track is both metaphoric love song and a smooth jazz classic. "Say You Love Me" is a piano ballad with a great arrangement, and despite its title, "Everyday I Have the Blues" keeps the affair swingin'. She demonstrates her technical prowess on the '50s style R&B "With My ...

| | Nivea Complicated CD (2005)
Everlasting songs
$7.69 Nivea's voice naturally hits each note at the perfect angle without over-adorning her songs. She can take a requisite Lil Jon club banger like "Okay" and infuse it with a surprisingly delicate spirit, and just as easily turn a Jermaine Dupri beat into a smooth seduction, as on "Parking Lot." Blessed with both a strong voice and the wisdom to effectively use it, Nivea makes good on the promise of her debut with COMPLICATED.
After landing a hip-hop ...
