Whining, begging soulman Keith Sweat's third album, Keep It Comin', fails to live up to the New Yorker's heart-wrenching first two; too many forgettable moments mar the set. The good include the heartfelt "Ten Commandments of Love" (not the Moonglows' classic), "Let Me Love You," and make-out specials ("I Want to Love You Down" and "Give Me What I Want"); but if you have to pass on a Sweat CD this is the one. ~ Andrew Hamilton

Keep It Comin' album
$8.75 Raised in the projects of Chicago's South Side, the young R. Kelly displayed an uncanny natural aptitude for the piano, and cut his teeth as a performer by playing a portable electric keyboard and singing with his homies out on the mean streets of the Windy City. The sounds of gospel music and the great romantic balladeers suffuse R. Kelly's work, and on 12 PLAY, his libidinous follow-up to BORN INTO THE 90'S, this gifted singer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist draws upon all his formative experiences to create a sensual, evolutionary style of contemporary R&B.
Evolutionary in that Kelly's a classic heart-throb (with virtuoso chops the likes of Freddie Jackson and Luther Vandross) who walks that historical line between the sacred and secular streams of black music. By overlaying a street-smart contemporary ...

| | Keith Sweat Get Up On It CD (1994)
Keep It Comin' songs
$9.09 After scoring massive success with his first two albums, Make It Last Forever and I'll Give All My Love to You, Keith Sweat's third album, Keep It Comin', signaled something of a creative and commercial slump for the new jack pioneer, which continued through 1994's Get Up on It. However, Get Up on It is not a bad album by any means. In fact, the set is classic Keith Sweat, filled to the brim with the pleading ballads that made this Harlem crooner so popular. Sweat began to utilize female background vocals, courtesy of Kut Klose, to full effect on this album, especially on the hit title track (one of the album's shining moments), a trend that he perfected on his huge 1996 self-titled comeback album. So Get Up on It finds Sweat in a stage of transition, leaving the formula that began to grow stale on Keep It Comin' and beginning to feature female backing vocals at center ...
| | Keith Sweat CD (1996)
Keep It Comin' album
$8.59 There aren't many artists who are recognizable 10 seconds into a tune. But from the opening bars of "Twisted," the first cut on this disc, it's clear we're listening to the one and only master of the vocal slow grind, Keith Sweat. Al Green he ain't, but Sweat's nasal, midrange voice has come to define modern hip-hop-inflected soul. And these 12 tunes are the Sweat formula, beginning to end: light, mid-tempo funk, with just enough of an edge to keep your head nodding to the beat.
Throw in the usual opening layers of harmonizing backing vocals, a few incidental raps, and you've got the Sweat method down. There's some high-powered help on this record, as Gerald Levert and Ronald Isley lend their generous talents ...
| | Keith Sweat Still In The Game CD (1998)
Keep It Comin' CD music
$9.09 While he doesn't break much new ground on STILL IN THE GAME, you can't blame R&B heart-throb Sweat for sticking with a formula that works. His intimate, sensual vocal style has endeared him to untold numbers of R&B fans, and he puts his voice to work here in service of some state-of-the-art tunes. Naturally, romance is the order of the day, and Sweat issues invitations to love throughout this album on tunes like "Come And Get Me" and the no-nonsense "Can We Make Love." One of the most interesting developments here is the incorporation of some rap vocals, provided by none other than Snoop Dogg ...
| | Blue Rodeo Greatest Hits Vol. 1 CD (2001)
Keep It Comin' music CDs
$14.65 In the liner notes for Greatest Hits, Vol. 1, Loftus Cuddy (guitarist/co-frontman Jim's brother) admits that the selection for a hits compilation for a band whose catalog is as massive and filled with possibilities as Blue Rodeo's is a difficult proposition unto itself. That being said, Greatest Hits is exactly what it claims to be -- the singles, the hits that have made Blue Rodeo the best band in Canada. There's "Try," "Diamond Mine," "Bad Timing," "Till I Am Myself Again," "Lost Together," "Hasn't Hit Me Yet"."..the list goes ...
