(1 Customer Review)
2009 release, the third album from the Portuguese Metal band. With Blood of Bacchus Ava Inferi serve the musical equivalent to a brilliant wine. Utmost pleasing to the aural palate are the rich and sweet vocals added by Portuguese singer Carmen Simes. Her beautifully clear and emotional singing has already gained her several guest appearances with Moonspell, but it is only in Ava Inferi that her beautiful voice is unleashed to its full potential. A darker tint is added to the barrel by renowned guitarist/songwriter Rune Eriksen, who has changed the course of Norwegian Black Metal with his work for legendary Mayhem. Yet in Ava Inferi, the listener tastes a far more subtle balance born out of a unique blending of Doom and Gothic Metal influences, but always remaining faithful to Eriksen's distinctive style, which is a far cry from any average verse/chorus structure. Nine tracks. Season Of Mist.
Like Season of Mist labelmates Gonin-Ish and Cantata Sangui, Ava Inferi feature fierce metal cut by otherworldly female vocals. On the latter band's BLOOD OF BACCHUS, the Portuguese-based quintet possesses quite a goth vibe throughout -- but unlike its labelmates Cantata Sangui, the group accomplishes this not with the aid of keyboards and samples, but solely with the vocals provided by frontwoman Carmen Simoes. What also sets Ava Inferi apart from the others is that they base their sound heavily around shifting moods -- there are few moments of all-out headbanging fury, as evidenced by such tracks as "Last Sign of Summer" and "Black Wings." As a result, there is quite a bit of mood-shifting metal detected throughout Ava Inferi's BLOOD OF BACCHUS.
Ava Inferi: Carmen Simoes (vocals).

Blood Of Bacchus album
$8.89 It's easy to be over-whelmed by Gene and Dean Ween's music. Recorded in basements and home-studios, their albums sound like composite sketches of an immense, diverse record library (Prince, Zeppelin, America, Funkadelic, you name it), splashing together lyrical canvases that draw on both a post-modern slack brilliance of the everyday and their own perverse private world. They have the eccentric's ...
| | Ween Pod CD (1991)
Blood Of Bacchus CD music
$25.59 Another collection of inspired pop pastiche and four-track dementia, 1991's The Pod is nearly as long as GodWeenSatan: The Oneness but even weirder and more deranged, due in large part to the band's Scotchguard habit and the severe cases of mononucleosis Gene and Dean Ween contracted while recording the album. As a result, The Pod is dark ...
| | Ween 12 Golden Country Greats CD (1996)
Blood Of Bacchus music CDs
$11.25 As the title implies, this is Gene and Dean Ween's Nashville move. And for those familiar with the duo's flexible and comedic musical nature: no, they're not faking the cowboy swagger or shedding counterfeit tears in their beers just for the sake of digging through the one genre their previous records didn't excavate. Backed by a who's who of Music City session players, Ween has produced an authentic update of the late-'60s/early-'70s ...

Blood Of Bacchus album
$12.69 There are signs of increasing maturity on WHITE PEPPER, Ween's eighth studio album, though not enough to back the claim that Gene and Dean are actually going straight. More like they've achieved a sensible grasp on when to court the masses, and when to drop the ...
| | God Ween Satan CD (1990) Anniversary Edittion; Anniversary Edition
Blood Of Bacchus CD music
$13.79 Dean and Gene Ween were barely out of their teens when they recorded GodWeenSatan: The Oneness, and it shows: it's juvenile in the best sense of the word, mixing their sprawling sense of humor with punk, heavy metal, and a surprising amount of pop literacy. At a whopping 23 tracks long, the album features a lot of noodling and lots of whacked-out pop, including "Nan," a dweeby tale of unrequited love, and the jazzy "Never Squeal," which shows off Ween's musical prowess and versatility. ...
| | Land Of The Loops Bundle Of Joy CD (1996)
Blood Of Bacchus music CDs
$11.85 Alan Sutherland, aka Land of the Loops, can't really decide what genre he wants to be a part of on Bundle of Joy. That's not really a bad thing, as these tracks give the impression that they're supposed to be background music for video game playing or some other modern time-wasting activity. Sometimes Bundle of Joy suggests Land of the Loops is a doppelgänger of His Name Is Alive from back in that band's Livonia and Mouth by Mouth era. More than a few tracks, including "Growing Concern," "I Confess," and "My Head (Leaks)," sound exactly like His Name Is Alive songs. Those songs feature creepy, childlike vocals over spooky, shuffling electronics. Other ...

After the immense success of the original and very American Nuggets box, Rhino was all too happy to scan the remainder of the globe for further forays in garage rock obscurity. Covering the nether regions of 1964-'69, Nuggets II is a virtually hitless, yet absolutely priceless, collection of mod, psychedelic, British R&B, freakbeat, twee-pop, and countless other momentary genres. We're talkin' another 4 discs of treasures from the underground, including all the usual extras: a massive 100-page book ...

| | Brian Dewan Words Of Wisdom CD (2007)
Blood Of Bacchus music CDs
$13.49 Enigmatic jack-of-all-trades Brian Dewan has dabbled in everything from carpentry to free-form electronic music and worked with everyone from the Blue Man Group to Sesame Street, so it comes as no surprise that his latest mission is to rescue as many long-buried American folk songs from "old schoolbooks, garage sales attics, and basements" as he can find and filter them through his sepia-toned armory of parlor-room instrumentation. Words of Wisdom, the first volume in Dewan's Humanitarium series for the Eschatone label, retains all of the snow-globe whimsy and dark humor of his two collections of original recordings, 1993's Tells the Story and 1998's Operating Theater. His self-built electric zither remains the delivery system of choice, but he peppers each tune with flourishes of accordion, autoharp, ...
