The track "Winter Light" was previously released on the Linda Ronstadt album WINTER LIGHT (Elektra 61545). DEDICATED TO THE ONE I LOVE won the 1997 Grammy Award for Best Musical Album For Children. Throughout her career, Linda Ronstadt has always interpreted rock and pop classics, but Dedicated to the One I Love is different from the rest of her albums -- this time around, she reinterprets the oldies as children's lullabies. All of the songs are given lush, sweet, and soft arrangements, even when that approach is ludicrous; it might be a cute idea to deliver Queen's "We Will Rock You" as a rock-a-bye chant, but in practice it is simply ridiculous. Fortunately, most of the album relies on songs -- "Be My Baby," "In My Room" -- that can be sung as lullabies, and she sings them very well. Of course, the appeal of Dedicated to the One I Love is limited -- only baby boomer parents will really find this interesting -- but fans that find the concept intriguing won't be disappointed by the results. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine DEDICATED TO THE ONE I LOVE is a collection of pop and rock classics reworked as lullabies. There's nary a guitar or drum in sight here. The bulk of the weight is taken up by harp, synthesizer and strings. Some songs, such as the Everly Brothers' "Devoted To You" and the Ronettes' "Baby I Love You," turn out to be naturals for this soft and silky treatment. Others are more unexpected, like "In My Room," the Beach Boys' ode to solipsism, and Queen's hard-rock anthem "We Will Rock You," both of which take on a slightly subversive undertone. Dedicated To The One I Love
$12.19 Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins followed up her 2004 debut, THE SOUND OF WHITE, with ON A CLEAR NIGHT in 2007. Earnest, emotional, and intimate, Higgins's music is folky and poppy at once, with most of her songs centering around her acoustic guitar, winding melodies, and confessional lyrics. There's a little bit of Ani Difranco in Higgins's tough-girl verbal skill the tune "100 Round the Bends," but the artist can also play the jazzy chanteuse on lovely, laid-back numbers such as "The Wrong Girl." The diverse palette works wonders paired with Higgins's top-notch tunesmithery. On a Clear Night debuted at the top of the Australian ...

A prolific author and recording artist, Bill is also a regular commentator for NPR’s All Things Considered and featured on PBS. Harley joined the National Storytelling Network's Circle of Excellence in 2001 and tours nationwide as an author and performing artist. With these considerable talents, Bill considers his real work to be using these skills to encourage his audience to see the world anew and to experience “live art”, to honor the emotional lives of children and adults and finally, to pass along a love of language and music.“Everybody worries about things being educational' with kids. I believe everything is educational, in that it says something about how one looks at the world - it imparts a knowledge, or world-view. Children learn more from context than they do from explicit lessons. They learn vocabulary and language not from a dictionary or worksheet, but from conversation, they learn songs not from reading music, but from singing with someone who loves to sing, and they learn hope and kindness and cooperation not from being told to have them, but by experiencing them.” Bill Harley“Bill Harley takes his life and turns it into art. Sounds simple until you actually try to do it. That Harley’s art seems so effortless only underscore his mastery.” -Nuvo NewsweeklyPraise for Monsters in the Bathroom:"Many of the selections leave the listeners with the feeling of having learned or relearned a profitable lesson---without having endured a lecture on values or ethics." Dedicated To The One I Love
$17.15 Terrific singer, amazing songwriter, and darned good guitar player, Ann Reed has had devoted fans lining up at the box office for more than a quarter-century. She recently released Telling Stories, a two-CD set celebrating those 25 years — years spent writing songs, making music and delighting everyone within earshot. If you had to pinpoint when all this started, you could look back to when Ann was 12, growing up in a suburb of Minneapolis. She borrowed her brother's guitar (the one he bought with the $40 their grandmother had given him to buy a suit) and taught herself to play. ...
