THE MOLLUSK contains a hidden track after "She Wanted To Leave (Reprise)."
Ween can be as slimy as a giant squid or as hard to crack as a clam, but the mollusk that Ween most resembles is an octopus--with a tentacle in every genre and an obfuscating cloud of black ink thrown in for good measure, once they grab a hold of you with their suckers, they don't let go. Ween's sixth album, THE MOLLUSK not only ensnares you with its sinewy melodies, it gobbles you whole.
Ween have followed the country madness of 12 GOLDEN COUNTRY GREATS with a true return to form. The eclectic, genre-hopping style of PURE GUAVA and GOD WEEN SATAN blossoms again, and songs like "Buckingham Green" and "The Blarney Stone" find Ween straddling the line between '70s arena-rock heavy metal ballads and bawdy 19th century Irish drinking songs. While not as overtly puerile or as heavy as some of their earlier material, THE MOLLUSK has its share of memorable moments and is destined to become a true Ween classic.

| | Ava Inferi Blood Of Bacchus CD (2009) Import
Mollusk
$13.09 2009 release, the third album from the Portuguese Metal band. With Blood of Bacchus Ava Inferi serve the musical equivalent to a brilliant wine. Utmost pleasing to the aural palate are the rich and sweet vocals added by Portuguese singer Carmen Simes. Her beautifully clear and emotional singing has already gained her several guest appearances with Moonspell, ...
| | Ween Chocolate And Cheese CD (1994)
Mollusk
$8.89 It's easy to be over-whelmed by Gene and Dean Ween's music. Recorded in basements and home-studios, their albums sound like composite sketches of an immense, diverse record library (Prince, Zeppelin, America, Funkadelic, you name it), splashing together lyrical canvases that draw on both a post-modern slack brilliance of the everyday and their own perverse private world. They have the eccentric's gift for incorporating the ludicrous into their musical mythology, but seem equally at home playing it straight (which they don't do often). Like ...
| | Ween 12 Golden Country Greats CD (1996)
Mollusk
$11.25 As the title implies, this is Gene and Dean Ween's Nashville move. And for those familiar with the duo's flexible and comedic musical nature: no, they're not faking the cowboy swagger or shedding counterfeit tears in their beers just for the sake of digging through the one genre their previous records didn't excavate. Backed by a who's who of Music City session players, Ween has produced an authentic update of the late-'60s/early-'70s countrypolitan sound--weepy pedal steel, footloose harmonica, boogie piano, the Jordanaires crooning in the background, pristine production, ...
| | Ween White Pepper CD (2000)
Mollusk
$12.69 There are signs of increasing maturity on WHITE PEPPER, Ween's eighth studio album, though not enough to back the claim that Gene and Dean are actually going straight. More like they've achieved a sensible grasp on when to court the masses, and when to drop the Boognish gospel upon the faithful.
A handful of tunes signify Ween's most explicit attempts yet to create genuine silly love songs that become radio hits, ...
| | God Ween Satan CD (1990) Anniversary Edittion; Anniversary Edition
Mollusk
$13.49 Dean and Gene Ween were barely out of their teens when they recorded GodWeenSatan: The Oneness, and it shows: it's juvenile in the best sense of the word, mixing their sprawling sense of humor with punk, heavy metal, and a surprising amount of pop literacy. At a whopping 23 tracks long, the album features a lot of noodling and lots of whacked-out pop, including "Nan," a dweeby tale of unrequited love, and the jazzy "Never Squeal," which shows off Ween's musical prowess and versatility. GodWeenSatan: The Oneness also introduces many of the song styles the band ...

| | David Lee Roth Best CD (1997)
Mollusk
$13.95 Recorded between 1985 and 1994. Includes liner notes by David Lee Roth.
Although he'll always be known first and foremost as the lead singer of Van Halen, David Lee Roth forged a successful solo career after splitting from the band in 1985. And since some of his solo releases were better than others, 1997's THE BEST proves to be a solid introduction and overview of Roth's work. At a whopping 20 tracks in length, all the expected DLR standards are featured--fun covers of "California Girls," "Just A Gigolo," and "Tobacco Road," as well as the white hot rocker "Shy Boy," and the expected hits ("Yankee Rose," "Goin' Crazy," "Just Like Paradise").
Also included is a brand new song, "Don't Piss Me Off," as well as the new wave-esque "Stand Up," and two surprisingly laid back rockers, "Big Trouble" and "Ladies Night in Buffalo." While some longtime fans may wonder why such strong album tracks as "Knucklebones" and "Hina" aren't included, the tracklisting is near-perfect, making THE BEST a superb summary of the Diamond one.
Hits collection from the Van Halen frontman featuring the same tracks previously available on the now-deleted U.S. compilation released on Rhino in 1997. Most of Roth's best-known songs are here, including 'California Girls', 'Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody', 'Yankee Rose', 'Ladies Night in Buffalo?', 'Goin' Crazy', 'Skyscraper', 'Just Like Paradise', and 'Stand Up' plus cuts from his under-appreciated albums A Lil' Ain't Enough and Your Filthy Little Mouth. Although Eddie and the Van Halen gang are nowhere to be found, DLR did manage to work with some great sidemen during his solo years including Steve Vai, Edgar Winter, Eddie Martinez, Brett Tuggle, Billy Sheehan, Willie Weeks, Gregg Bissonette, Carl Wilson, Christopher Cross and many ...
| | Anekdoten From Within CD Import
Mollusk
$27.05 After a long silence, Anekdoten reemerges into the darkness with a record that is both more mature than their debut, Vemod, and yet somewhat less polished than 1995's Nucleus. From Within feels like it was produced on a tighter budget, and the production can have a rehearsal-room feel -- although to be sitting in Anekdoten's rehearsal room is no small privilege. The opening title track is a band tour de force of crunching bass, swooping Mellotron, and clattering snare drums; one of the real high points of the album comes with the slowly building instrumental "The Sun Absolute," built around a single pulsing bass guitar note, ghostly Mellotron flutes, and sonar ping keyboards. But this fine album still falls a little short of its predecessor, for although Anna Sofi Dahlberg ...

| | Styx One With Everything CD (2006) Import
Mollusk
$22.79 Continuing the grand tradition of hard-rock bands collaborating with full orchestras, the Styx live album, ONE WITH EVERYTHING, features the 1970s superstars with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra of Cleveland. Although original lead singer Dennis DeYoung possessed the Broadway-belter style that would have been perfect with this set-up, his replacement, second-string '70s Canadian rocker Larry Gowan, acquits himself well on this set of tunes, mostly written by guitarist and DeYoung foil Tommy Shaw, and therefore focusing on the anthemic, rocking side of the group's personality.
Rock bands classified as "progressive" have been pairing off with symphony orchestras for decades, sometimes with positive results, a good example being Procol Harum Live in Concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, that group's biggest-selling album. According to guitarist/singer Tommy Shaw, who has been fronting Styx since a legal settlement with former singer/keyboardist Dennis DeYoung gave him, guitarist James "JY" Young, and mostly retired bass player Chuck Panozzo the right to perform under the band's name in 2001, the group mostly avoided hooking up with orchestras until an offer came in from the Contemporary Youth Orchestra (CYO) of Cleveland, OH, a massive ensemble of 115 musicians along with a 56-member choir, all of them teenagers. ...
