VISUAL AUDIO SENSORY THEATER contains one untitled track between "Somewhere Else To Be" and "You."
Principally recorded at Chateau Chaumont, Los Angeles, California, Palindrome, Venice, California, The Chapel, Encino, California and Soundtrack, New York, New York.
On the debut album by VAST, titled Visual Audio Sensory Theater, the listener is introduced to the many talents of one Jon Crosby. With its roots in Nine Inch Nails-like soundscapes and reminiscent of Type O Negative's mellower moments, the ingredient that sets VAST apart from its contemporaries is Crosby's experimentation with samples not yet touched upon in rock music. Some of the material sampled on the debut includes the Bulgarian Female Choir and the Benedictine Monks of the Abbey of Saint-Mauer, plus the use of an actual 18-piece orchestra, to boot. The album is an intimidating listen the first time, but the rich textures created are quite impressive, with standout tracks being "Here," "Touched," and "Temptation." Lars Ulrich of Metallica has praised the album as "one of the best debut albums I've heard in a long, long time," and lovers of ambient electro-rock will undoubtedly agree upon hearing Visual Audio Sensory Theater. ~ Greg Prato

Of course the songs are now stuck in my head. Submitted by Jessica (Melbourne, Fl, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Talent doesn't stop I have purchased V.A.S.T. more than six times, due to CD thieves and my tendancy to leave them where I shouldn't, and I would buy it 6 more times if I had to. John Crosby is absolutley amazing, I picked up the Album without ever hearing it the music threw me into an instant calm, I have never heard anything as powerful or divine as I have with his music. Music for People was an excellent addition and much more of an addiction, the music goes onward and upward. I just hope the gates will never close. Go on to check out Turquiose and Crimson. A stunning debut from VAST It takes awhile to soak in the vibes of VISUAL AUDIO SENSORY THEATER, but once it does, you come to appreciate it as one of the best releases of 1998 and easily one of the best goth-rock albums out. While I had wished he had more guitars on this album, acoustic and electric, the album has a perfect balance, from the haunting/hard-rocking "Touched", to the sweeping "Three Doors", to the gorgeous "Flames". You really cannot find an album that blends such textures together, and Jon Crosby is an absolute genius. Thank god for musicians like him, and for such an incredible band like VAST. INTIMIDATION AT IT'S BEST If you ever thought talent was intimidating, well for Jonathan Crosby, this is intimidation at it's best. never in my life have i heard music so beautifully striking to my pleasure dome. Just listening to the songs, makes me float in and out of conciousness because of it's raw beauty. Jon Crosby is a musical genius, not mentioning his playing almost all the instruments on this cd. The way he has combined so many genres of music into his own genre, is a combination that works magnificently. I'm astounded that VAST is not more well-known, although I often forget that that main-stream music being heard these days on the radio is more commercialized crap, than anything. VAST is beauty, and Jonathan Crosby is God. Nothing more needs to be said. Submitted by ibellydance85 (UT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
