Energetic and radio-friendly, Marvelous 3's strong full-length debut, Hey! Album, shows the Atlanta band's roots in a mixture of '70s pop/rock with '90s power pop. Reminiscent of Cheap Trick and the Cars, Marvelous 3 sounds like Ben Folds Five traded their piano for lead guitar. Hey! is a likeable, melodic album, full of self-conscious and self-deprecating lyrics bordering on preciousness. While Butch Walker's I-wish-I-was-punk vocals are not particularly original, the album manages to salvage itself, mostly due to tight arrangements and seamless production. The lyrics and music often contradict each other, as many of the songs deal with being trapped or jilted, while the music sounds carefree and energetic: a near-perfect combination of angst and bliss. Still, you get the feeling you've heard this all before. ~ Gina Boldman

Marvelous 3 Hey! Album Songs Hey! Album Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) The Best This CD is possibly the best that I've heard in a while. It's so nice to hear something other then backstreet boys and sissy bands like that! This is what the world needs more of!! Submitted by a reviewer (Rock Springs,wy) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Greatest album that never got a second look This album is literally my favorite ever recorded. It's not that it's under-rated, because anyone who rates it loves it. It's just that no one has ever heard of it. Marvelous 3's self-titled work got about five sentences of glowing review review in Rolling Stone about 4 years ago and no one has heard of them since. Then, to make it all worse, the band broke-up about two years later, but the album is still a stunning experience. If every song on this album doesn't stick in your head for four months, then you're not human! Fans of this album should check out Marvelous 3's next effort, Ready, Sex, Go, which I don't like as much, but is still much, much better than the 'I hate my parents Nu-Metal' psychobabble that is all I hear on the radio recently. Butch, if you can hear me, KEEP DOING MUSIC!!! Submitted by a reviewer (Ann Arbor, MI, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

READYSEXGO is an absolutely killer slice of pop/punk/metal. Marvelous 3 are essentially Cheap Trick retooled for the 21st century, although these guys also have the sex-and-drugs misogynist attitude of mid-'80s hair metal bands (which may explain why Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx makes a cameo here on an answering machine message). High class musical references abound, such as Def Leppard and Queen in some of the choruses, Material Issue and Green Day ...
| | Fountains Of Wayne Utopia Parkway CD (1999)
Hey! Album music CDs
$7.69 Fountains of Wayne turn self-conscious alt-rock geekdom into an unassailable art form on their second album UTOPIA PARKWAY. They combine classic power-pop song structure with a knack for the killer hook and an endless supply of self-referential lyrics detailing the lives of East Coast hipsters growing up in the postmodern age. Perfect pop harmonies, ringing guitars and the occasional synth sweep (for retro new wave credibility) match lyrics about "playing in a cover band" and taking "the N train down to Coney Island."
It quickly becomes plain that the outsider edge of the songs comes from the ...

| | Tesla Into The Now CD (2004)
Hey! Album album
$8.49 Unfairly labeled a hair-metal band, Tesla was always closer to the spirit of vintage 1970s hard rock. When the group released 1994's BUST A NUT, grunge rock was in full swing, and the Sacramento quintet subsequently took their curtain call, keeping busy with low-profile side projects. Testing the waters in 2000, Tesla launched ...
