Remarkably, Judy Collins's 1972's COLORS OF THE DAY came out only three years after 1969's RECOLLECTIONS: THE BEST OF JUDY COLLINS and contains no overlapping material with the earlier compilation. If anything, it's an even better collection. Where RECOLLECTIONS focused on Collins's more purist early folk material, COLORS OF THE DAY gathers 12 tracks from Collins' most artistically fruitful period, from '66 to '71. Combining songs from the masterful IN MY LIFE and WILDFLOWERS, two brilliant albums arranged by the chamber-folk eccentric Joshua Rifkin, with the better tunes from the three more pop-oriented albums that followed, this is a well-chosen introduction containing much of the best material from this era. Although many Collins fans will want the original albums, COLORS OF THE DAY is essential for newcomers.

Colors Of The Day: The Best Of Judy Collins songs
$14.95 Crosby, Still, and Nash topped their enormously popular self-titled 1969 debut by adding Neil Young to their ranks and expanding their stylistic and sonic range. The result, released in 1970, was an artistic and commercial success, representing the talents of the four primary players to excellent effect. More ambitious and incisive than its CSN predecessor, DEJA VU brings together folk, psychedelia, jazz, African, and Middle Eastern flavors, Tin Pan Alley, and hard rock in a manner that captures the tenor of the era's counterculture without sounding dated.
The group's distinctively lush harmonies are spread across the album, notably on the record's ...
| | Joni Mitchell Blue CD (1971)
Colors Of The Day: The Best Of Judy Collins album
$8.99 All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
BLUE marks the culmination of Mitchell's early, traditional singer/songwriter period, and it is one of the very best albums of that genre. Though she was already beginning to experiment with elements of pop and jazz, BLUE focuses on Mitchell's skill as a folk singer, showcasing her reedy, expressive voice in duet with her piano or guitar. The arrangements on the album--which feature keys, dulcimer, bass, and assorted percussion--are spare and tasteful, so much so that it is easy to overlook their sophistication.
Yet it is ultimately ...

$8.65 On songs like, "Conversation" and the title cut, Mitchell's lyrics begin to turn toward to the quirky, personal poetry of interior landscapes, focusing with a writer's eye on scene, detail, and the dynamics of human relationships. Her instrumental palette is broadened too, with colorful, textured arrangements ...

Colors Of The Day: The Best Of Judy Collins CD music
$14.49 Digitally remastered by Tony Arnold (Courthouse Facilities, Dorset).
Guitarist Gallager's third officially released live album (during his lifetime) captures him on a grinding world tour in 1979 and 1980, pumping out blues rockers with requisite aggression, yet none of the charm and subtlety that made his previous concert recordings so essential. The song selection is weak as it concentrates on lesser tracks from his late 70's collections, but more problematically the Irishman sounds like he's rushing the tunes and generally playing too loud. The arrangements bludgeon the songs ...
