Genius of Ray Charles album for sale Product Description
Genius of Ray Charles album for sale by Ray Charles was released Jan 24, 1990 on the Atlantic (Label) label. Neither pop nor jazz, once again Charles is hard to categorize even though many of the musicians have strong jazz credentials; Paul Gonsalves, Clark Terry, Zoot Sims and Bob Brookmeyer, for example. Genius of Ray Charles buy CD music The album's strength (in addition to Brother Ray) lies in the choice of classic songs matched with lush orchestration. Ray's soulful voice will break hearts on 'Don't Let The Sun Catch You Cryin", 'Just For A Thrill' and the ultimate song for hopeless romantics, Johnny Mercer and Harold Arlen's starry-eyed 'Come Rain Or Come Shine'. Genius of Ray Charles CD music contains a single disc with 12 songs. ...See Full Description

| The Original 'Genius' Album (almost) Much has been written that nobody arranged or produced Ray's music except Ray himself. And yet here is an album where every track was arranged by a giant of Big Band music: Quincy Jones, Ernie Wilkins, Johnny Acea, Al Cohn and Ralph Burns. "Side 1", with a great line up of Basie and Ellington sidemen is 5 stars plus. "Side two" is the biggest disappointment of any of Ray's work with a sickly strings orchestra. All the tracks on this side were arranged by Ralph Burns, who produced such great charts for the Woody Herman bands. Woody also recorded for Atlantic around this time - now that would have been a great blues combination. By mikeherman (Standon, Hertfordshire, England) |
 | Super Soulful This is one of the most soulful albums on the face of the earth...Ray Charles goes deep...he inspires you with his blues...he makes you laugh, smile, pat your feet and feel good all over...and for this he definitely must be considered the "dean of the blues"... | More than expected! All the songs I like the most plus some I had never heard before. I was not disappointed. By Loisweezie (Portland, OR) This review is for a different format. |
