| | Willie Nelson Shotgun Willie CD Willie Nelson Discography of CDs
Principally recorded at Atlantic Recording Studios, New York.
Prior to his major success as a founding father of outlaw country (with Waylon Jennings), Nelson recorded for Atlantic. They were a record label who, among many things, were not renowned for country music. The production by Arif Mardin (with a little help from Jerry Wexler) has definite shades of southern soul and R&B. Nelson also has a great gift of singing in an incredibly unaffected way; he sings honestly as if he is singing for himself. This remarkable talent has endeared him to millions, and although this album failed to chart, it is one to return to, like an old friend, especially Leon Russell's 'A Song For You'.

Purchase Shotgun Willie CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Flaco Jimenez Ay Te Dejo En San Antonio Y Mas! CD (1986)
Shotgun Willie
$14.49 Lyrics translated from the Spanish by Guillermo Hernandaz, Yolanda Zepeda and Jaime Nicolopulos.
Following on from his father Santiago Jimenez' own successful run as a conjunto musician in San Antonio, Flaco Jimenez put together a conjunto of his own in the '50s, eventually becoming one of the most famous figures in Tex-Mex music (also known as Musica Nortena in Mexico). Based on the polkas and waltzes Mexican performers refashioned as rancheras, the Tex-Mex conjunto style features accordion, the 12-string bajo sexto guitar, bass, and drums. Flaco immediately staked his claim in the music with a distinctly imaginative and lively accordion style, finding the ideal backing from equally able Tejano musicians, including his father and his ...
| | Phil Alvin County Fair 2000 CD (1994)
Shotgun Willie
$10.69 Brothers Phil and Dave Alvin were the heart of California roots-rockers the Blasters. After songwriter/guitarist Dave's departure for a solo career, Phil kept the group alive, but mostly on a local performance level, not as a recording unit. He released his first solo album in 1986, but it took him eight years to make another.
Like its predecessor, COUNTY FAIR finds Phil Alvin backed by a shifting cast of characters, exploring an eclectic batch of American roots styles, from blues to country to R&B and rockabilly. On several songs, he's backed by the '90s version ...
| | Waylon Jennings Honky Tonk Heroes CD (1973)
Shotgun Willie
$7.59 This is the quintessential "Outlaw country" album. Waylon Jennings spent the early '70s working his way up to this rough-and-tumble masterpiece, arguably the finest album of his prolific career. Jennings was so taken with the songwriting of Nashville rowdy Billy Joe Shaver that he decided to record this all-Shaver album (with the exception of the Fritts/Seals-penned "You Asked Me To"), which helped put Shaver on the map as the poet laureate of the Outlaw set.
Jennings eschewed the lush countrypolitan sound in favor of a raw, electrified approach that owed more to the Rolling Stones than to Billy Sherrill. With a small band and simple ...

| | Waylon Jennings Wanted! The Outlaws CD (1976)
Shotgun Willie
$8.99 The 1996 reissue of WANTED! THE OUTLAWS includes nine additional tracks from the original sessions and one new song ("Nowhere Road").
Digitally remastered by Benny Quinn (Masterfonics, Inc., Nashville, Tennessee).
In the mid-1970s, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and a few other cohorts turned the Nashville country establishment on its ear, introducing a gritty, rock & roll feel and iconoclastic, rebellious sensibility to the staid institution country music had become. The breath of fresh air that they were, they ...

| | Loop Guru Duniya CD (1995)
Shotgun Willie
$13.49 Following the success of singles "Mrbet," "Paradigm Shuffle," and "Sus-san-tics," Loop Guru's beat maestro Jamuud and bassist/guitarist Salman Gita crafted this full-length debut of global-minded ambient techno for the North-South label. Dance music, by nature, has a precariously transient quality. As hard as Loop Guru tries on Duniya ...

| | Best Of Natacha Atlas CD (2005)
Shotgun Willie
$13.45 A well thought-out collection for both fans and newcomers, The Best of Natacha Atlas is one of those all too rare compilations with the artist's involvement. Atlas not only picked the songs, she's decided to update some of the older tracks with new vocals and other remix touches. This updating feels perfectly natural coming from an artist who blends traditional Middle Eastern music with beat-driven electronica, besides the fact it gives the established fan base a good reason to consider the collection. Exotic songs from her homeland sung over slick beats mix with Atlas' sensual and trippy interpretations of Western material and the running ...
| | Hanna-Mceuen CD (2005)
Shotgun Willie
$12.65 Jaime Hanna and Jonathan McEuen are the offspring of two founding members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and, in a neat twist of fate that's stranger than fiction, they're also first cousins, since their fathers married twin sisters. They would be noteworthy for their pedigree and their back story, which is at least worth a few column inches, yet that story also throws up some red flags, suggesting that they may only be of interest because of their family tree. Thankfully, their debut, Hanna-McEuen, is noteworthy for another reason: it's a hell of a record, one of the best debuts of 2005. It's one of the few contemporary country records that fully ...
