"Retrospective"
Buffalo Springfield: Steve Stills (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Richie Furay, Neil Young (vocals, guitar); Jim Messina (vocals, bass); Bruce Palmer, Jim Fielder (bass); Dewey Martin (drums). Producers include: Charles Green, Brian Stone, Steve Stills, Neil Young, Jim Messina. Personnel: Neil Young (vocals, guitar, harmonica); Stephen Stills (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Richie Furay (vocals, guitar); Jim Messina (vocals); Dewey Martin (drums). Illustrator: Eve Babitz. Retrospective: The Best of Buffalo Springfield may not be definitive, but it's a good, basic overview of the group's career, containing most of the group's biggest hits and signature songs. Yes, several worthy album cuts are missing, but as a sampler, this works quite well, offering a nice introduction to the group. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Buffalo Springfield's brief lifespan (essentially 1966-1968) was rich with promise but fraught with creative tensions. This friction ultimately fractured the band's core foundation of Stephen Stills and Neil Young. However, those same tensions--along with the formidable talents of Richie Furay and Jim Messina (replacing original bass player Bruce Palmer but assuming a broader production role)--created some truly enduring music. With only three albums from which to draw, RETROSPECTIVE includes the entirety of the band's hits and many well-known album tracks. Looking back, Buffalo Springfield can be seen as the wellspring for much of what happened in popular music in the half-dozen years after the band's demise. From the country rock of Poco (which begat the Eagles) to Crosby, Stills & Nash--not to mention every turn in the ever-twisting road of Neil Young's career--it can all be traced right back to these tracks.

Retrospective: Best Of Buffalo Springfield Songs Retrospective: Best Of Buffalo Springfield Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) Just catching up on my oldies Sounds good Submitted by mkawick (Texas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Best Underated Album of all Time Neil Young, Steven Stills, Richie Furray and Jim Messina. No bands in the 60's had a sound so versatile from rock to folk and ballads like Buffalo Springfield. It is a shame that they only lasted 2 years. However, during those two years their influence on rock lasted even through today. The music on Retrospective still holds up today [May, 2009]. Stills and Young went on to pair with Crosby and Nash after this and all four of them went to a successful solo careers. Jim Messina also went on with Kenny Loggins to form Loggins and Messina which was also a successful band. If you liked any of that style of music you cant go wrong with Buffalo Springfield. A Good Retrospective of a Short Term band but............. This is a great collection of one of the most outstanding/hard working bands from the 60's with such a great line up of especially Stills & Young. Great songwriters. Only thing I can say negative about this CD is that it should of been digital remastered as there is a lot of annoying hiss on it. Atco should of taken the time to remaster this one. I hope eventually they do as it is worthy of being so. But if you can tolerate analog to disc cd's then this will satisfy your palate. Enjoy! the best collection This is by no means a complete collection of Buffalo Springfield, but it is the best all the right songs in the right order, if I could only choose one springfield album this would be it. Retrospective: Best Of Buffalo Springfield
$11.49 Personnel: Eric Clapton (vocals, guitar); John Mayer (guitar); Robert Randolph (dobro); Isobelle Griffiths (strings); Annie Whitehead, Roddy Lorimer, Simon Clarke, Tim Sanders, Paul Spong (horns); Steve Winwood (synthesizer); Nathan East (bass guitar); Nicky "Misschief" Shaw (drums, percussion, drum programming); Abe Laboriel, Jr., Abraham Laboriel, Sr. (drums); Michelle John (background vocals); Doyle Bramhall II, Andy Fairweather Low (guitar); Nick Ingman, Gavyn Wright (strings); Billy Preston (piano, keyboards); Simon Climie (keyboards, programming); Steve Gadd (drums); Sharon White, Lawrence Johnson (background vocals); Chris Stainton, Pino Palladino, Stephen Marley, Vince Gill, Toby Baker, Paul Fakhourie. Audio Mixer: Mick Guzauski. Ensemble: Kick Horns. Photographers: Chris Sykes; Allan Titmuss; Jill Furmanovsky. Eric Clapton claimed in the press release for Back Home, his 14th album of original material, that "One of the earliest statements I made about myself was back in the late '80s, with Journeyman. This album completes that cycle in terms of talking about my whole journey as an itinerant musician and where I find myself now, starting a new family. That's why I chose the title. It's about coming home and staying home." With that in mind, it becomes clearer that the studio albums Clapton released during the '90s did indeed follow some sort of thematic logic. 1989's Journeyman did find Clapton regrouping after a muddled '80s, returning to the bluesy arena rock and smooth pop that had been his signature sound as a solo artist. He followed that with 1994's From the Cradle, where he explicitly returned to the roots of his music by recording an album of blues standards. Four years later, he released Pilgrim, a slick album that had Clapton strengthening his collaboration with producer/co-writer Simon ...

Retrospective: Best Of Buffalo Springfield
$15.85 Secret (1983) turned out to be a very appropriate title for most of the world, as this final album was Classix Nouveaux's best kept secret. With top American producer, Alex Sadkin, at the helm Classix veered between the artistic experimental of Peter Gabriel and the synthy pop of the Thompson Twins.
