With the tragic death of several Lynyrd Skynyrd members in 1977 and the band's prompt breakup, there was a huge hole left in the Southern rock genre. Though several bands were hailed as inheritors to the throne, Blackfoot was one of the first Southern rock bands to score a big hit after the tragedy, with 1979's STRIKES.
Although Blackfoot's music is slightly harder than Skynyrd's, bordering on heavy metal at times, both groups were clearly unashamed of their Southern roots. After two releases, 1975's NO RESERVATIONS and 1976's FLYIN' HIGH, had come and gone with little success, Blackfoot scored with American rock fans with STRIKES. Highlights include such tough rockers as "Road Fever," "I Got a Line on You," and "Pay My Dues," making STRIKES Blackfoot's best and most popular album of their career.

if you like classic rock you're going to love this! Listen to just one song like "Train, Train", "Highway Song" or "Wishing Well" and you'll be hooked for life! I am! If you like "Lynyrd Skynyrd" you'll like Blackfoot. I first saw them in concert opening for "Ted Nugent" and they stole the show just with the music! That's no small feat! Buy this selectiona and you"ll never regret it.

A Surprise Album Released In The Late Seventies! Just when you thought Southern rock had died in 1979 here comes ex-Lynyrd Skynyrd Ricky Medlock and his group Blackfoot. With the onslaugt of punk/new wave in the late seventies there weren't a whole lot of Southern rockers releasing records. Yeah there was Molly Hatchet with "Beatin' The Odds" (released in 1980), The Charlie Daniels Band with their smash hit "The Devil Went Down To Georgia", ZZ Top had "Cheap Sunglasses" and Blackfoot. I always thought Blackfoot was heavier than most Southern rock bands. Blackfoot "Strikes" is their debut and an excellent one at that. Lots of good stuff here including a couple of remakes such as Free's "Wishing Well" and Spirit's "I Got A Line On You". But my favs are "Baby Blue", "Train Train" and "Highway Song". Any lover of Southern rock owes it to themselves to have this in their collection! Submitted by Jethro ("Dalton, Ga, USA") Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The pinnacle of Southern rock. As a Georgia boy I know Southern Rock, and this is it. While Skynard, Molly Hatchet, Marshall Tucker Band, .38 Special, The Allman Brothers, et.al. were big in the day, Blackfoot seemingly came out of nowhere and pimp-slapped the rock & roll world with "Strikes."
Every song on the nearly 30-year old album is still a keeper, but a few stand out even more so than the others.
The lonely intro of "Highway Song" sets a mellow mood, which is countered enjoyably later in the song when things speed up, creating the quintessential driving tune for blasting down a lonely highway on a dark night in a fast car.
And anyone who doesn't get chills by the wailing harmonica in "Train, Train" needs to have their pulse checked- they're probably dead.
My all-time favorite Blackfoot song (on this album or any other) is "Left Turn On A Red Light." This song sports a heavy, melodic rhythm that is almost hypnotizing, and the lyrics are haunting and memorable. It's about life; we all make mistakes, and this song drives that fact home in a way that is unforgettable. Truly a masterpiece of music, lyrics, and emotion.
Along with Skynard's "One More From The Road," Blackfoot's "Strikes" is the pinnacle of the genre that is/was Southern Rock. No collection is complete without it. Submitted by Dave Howard (Way down South.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$10.49 Blackfoot's 1975 debut, No Reservations (named in reference to their Native American bloodlines), had been a critical and commercial bust for their indifferent label, Island Records, so after being cut loose from their contract, the resourceful Southern rock group immediately hooked up with the more rock-friendly Epic Records, for the release ...

| | Blackfoot Siogo CD (1983)
Strikes songs
$12.39 Blackfoot was always the heaviest of the great Southern rock movement, and on Siogo(reputedly either a Native American word for "closeness" or a crude groupie acronym, probably the latter) the boys try to break into the metal market and regain their brief hold on American audiences. Staunch metallists will recognize the touch of ...
| | Blackfoot Vertical Smiles CD (1984)
Strikes album
$10.49 Although they'd managed to become bona fide second-division stars in England, where their incomparably heavy brand of Southern rock and devastating live performances had thrilled nostalgic Skynyrd disciples and open-minded metalheads alike, Blackfoot had made dispiritingly little commercial headway in their own backyard: the American market. So as pressure mounted to deliver a hit for their label, Atco, Rickey Medlocke decided to invite former Uriah Heep keyboard player Ken Hensley to join the band -- a calculated move intended to modernize the group's sound for the synth-happy 1980s. But 1983's ...
