Platoon (And Songs from the Era) Soundtrack album for sale was released Jul 07, 1987 on the Atlantic (Label) label. In compiling the soundtrack for Oliver Stone's Academy Award winning 1986 Vietnam War epic Platoon, producer Bud Carr opted to eschew original composition in favor of a collection of songs from the '60s in an attempt to capture the period. Platoon (And Songs from the Era) Soundtrack songs Many of the songs he selected were not even used in the film. The only excerpt from Georges Delerue's score that made it onto the album was "Barnes Shoots Elias." The '80s were not a golden age for sales of original score soundtracks. Randy Edelman / Original Soundtrack Last of the Mohicans CD (1992) Top Seller
Platoon (And Songs from the Era) Soundtrack songs A rare pairing of A-list Hollywood composers, The Last of the Mohicans teams Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman, who replaced the former midway through production. The resulting score suffers from the schizophrenia one would expect given its abrupt creative shift, but proves greater than the sum of its parts thanks to a series of impressively epic orchestral themes. Jones' opening main theme is the most effective music here, capturing the mystery and primal wonder of James Fennimore Cooper's frontier milieu in ravishing detail. While he wisely relegates synthesizers to the background, Edelman vaults his electronics front and center, and his glossy modern sensibilities are a poor fit with the subject matter. Last of the Mohicans nevertheless proved a bestseller, buoyed largely by the inclusion of Clannad's mystical love theme "I Will Find You," although some listeners will find ...

How do you spell blockbuster? Try the following names; Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, while you're at it, how about John Williams, the soundtrack king who composed and conducted the original score for this heavy duty film. PRIVATE RYAN deals, somewhat graphically, with the horror that was WWII, and Williams naturally evokes this in his music. Through the use of ominous, minor key themes, moody orchestral textures, and some military percussion touches, William's score puts the listener in mind of the battlefield and the soldiers who fought and died there.

Full Metal Jacket CD (1988)
Platoon (And Songs from the Era) Soundtrack CD music A very strange, very jarring soundtrack album release that starts out with a selection of '60s pop hits and transitions through "The Marines Hymn" to Fairlight performances by Abigail Mead (actually Vivian Kubrick, daughter of director Stanley Kubrick). The original part of the album is dark and sometimes unmusical, but works better than might be expected, even in the context of the film. The album generated a European Top Ten hit with "Full Metal Jacket (I Wanna Be Your Drill Instructor)," performed by Kubrick and Nigel Goulding. ~ Steven McDonald
