possibly Overkill's masterpiece Easily one of the greatest Metal albums of all time. I wish all of their albums were this inspired and well crafted. Submitted by a reviewer (West Virginia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
cute photos but worst vocalist in the world ! Yes, a photos inside the booklet are so cute. but also looks unreal. tooo many curls, i sure that photo was edited using photoshop.
What about vocal - the worst voice, sounds like a young girl's voice, not a men's voice. When he is screaming "I'm a peacetime killer" it sounds soooo funny ! Submitted by Esfir (Hollywood, Ca) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Wow....just...wow. This album may not be their best, but it sure is my favorite. Songs like "Coma", "Infectious", and "Bare Bones" instantly got me hooked. My favorite song is "Coma" though....anyways, these guys sound almost identical to Anthrax, maybe not through vocals (though they are pretty close), but definantly guitar wise. If you like bands like Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, or Megadeth, then this is the band (and album) for you. Submitted by Evan (Otway, OH, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
One Of Their Best If this isn't Overkill's finest hour, it's one of them. You really can't go wrong with any of their CD's, but this one is a personal favorite of mine. Still thrashing on songs like "Coma," "Blood Money," "Live Fast, Die Young" and "Bare Bones," yet in the slower, groovier moments like the title track and "New Machine," they sound remarkably like Metallica on ... And Justice For All. Luckily, the songs aren't as LONG as that album. This is Overkill showing off ALL their tricks. Best songs: "Coma," "Infectious," "Horrorscope," the Edgar Winter cover "Frankenstein," the merciless stomp of "New Machine" and the brooding, waiting-for-the-gas-to-take-effect "Soulitude." You don't really need to get every single Overkill album (unless you're a fanatic, of course), but you must have this one. Submitted by Fizz (Delmarva) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Could Spock's Beard survive the departure of its now born-again Christian lead singer and main songwriter? Well, they did manage to put together a new album in decent time, but it is not an impressive opus, to say the least. Then again, the group's music was on a path leading it away from its progressive rock beginnings and toward a tighter, harder-edged, more commercial sound ever since 1999's Day for Night, so it would be unfair to put all the weight of this new leap on Neal Morse's absent shoulders. Nick D'Virgilio, who stepped out from behind the drums to take the lead singer's microphone, lacks the charisma, that trembling something in the voice that endeared Morse to the group's early fans. But most of all it is the writing that suffers. If "The Bottom Line" and "East of Eden, West of Memphis" make convincing art rockers, "Onomatopoeia" and the title track are weak, lacking the rate of ideas by the minute the group was capable of back in the days. The obligatory ballads ("Shining Star" and "Ghosts of Autumn") are enjoyable, but that kind of number, especially when given a hard rock edge, has never been the group's forte. As for the suite "A Guy Named Sid," it ranks among the group's weakest attempts at epic writing. ...

$16.39 Despite the unlikely birth of this group, when five strangers were thrown together (with one rehearsal) to provide a weekend of dinner music for a university "Madrigal Feast," they quickly decided that the music was beautiful, the friendship was genuine, and that they should try to keep playing together for as long as possible!Eighteen years, hundreds of performances, and two CDs later, the Castle & Cross Consort has entertained its fans in many venues...from Medieval Faires to Ballet Galas, from fifteen years as a Renaissance Band at the Ren Fest in Kansas City to sumptuous Victorian Mansion Christmas Feasts, and even a delightful evening of banquet music for the national "Miss USA Pageant!"CD Highlights / Program Notes: SPRING SPRING SPRING SPRING“Coletta” is a jolly madrigal tune which sounds especially nice played on harp and recorders.5, 6 & 7. These less well known Renaissance madrigal pieces are a delight! Even without the lyrics, their very strong musical lines clearly convey the emotions behind each title: “I know a young maiden...” is a sprightly, charming warning to any potential suitors. “Morir non puo’l mio core” is a very regal sounding lament over lost love. “Gay little nymph” is teasing and playful in its pursuit of true love.8. “Fair Phyllis I saw sitting all alone” is a rollicking madrigal, even when done solely as an instrumental. SUMMER SUMMER SUMMER SUMMER9. William Byrd’s “The Bright Sun” starts as a grand dignified march, but ends with a lively and almost “folksy” dance section.10 -13. The “Four Miniature Dances from Childhood” for solo recorder and harp were written especially for Castle & Cross by Steven Clark. In contrast to the more “formal” Renaissance gems that ...
