| | Led Zeppelin Boxed Set 2 CD Led Zeppelin Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Out-of-print in the US! Two CD set containing digitally remastered versions of the remaining 30 tracks from Led Zeppelin's nine studio albums that were not included in the original four CD Led Zeppelin box plus one previously unreleased cut: 'Baby Come On Home'. Although the first box contains most of the Classic Rock radio staples, every track that Zeppelin recorded could be considered 'classic' and this second box is filled with them. Includes 'Moby Dick', 'The Lemon Song', 'Bron-Yr-Aur', 'The Rover', 'The Crunge', 'Black Country Woman' and more. Like The Beatles before them, the magic of Led Zeppelin would not have worked without these four talented individuals (Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham) and the musical landscape today would be much different had they not come together to create what is now known as Hard Rock. The box also includes a 48-page booklet featuring photographs, and complete credits. Warner.

Contains 31 tracks from Led Zeppelin's nine studio albums not included on the original Zeppelin box set. Includes one previously unreleased track and a 48-page booklet featuring photographs, and complete credits. Personnel: Robert Plant (vocals, harmonica); Jimmy Page (guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar); John Bonham (drums). Recording information: Headley Grange, Hampshire, England (10/1968-??/1978); Olympic Studios, London, England (10/1968-??/1978); Rolling Stones Mobile Stud (10/1968-??/1978); Royal Albert Hall, London, England (10/1968-??/1978). Rounding up all of the studio tracks that didn't appear on the first box (as well as the pleasant, but unremarkable, "Baby Come on Home"), Boxed Set 2 is the perfect way to complete a Led Zeppelin library begun with the first box set. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine This pivotal quartet was formed in October 1968 by Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, Robert Plant and John Bonham. On Led Zeppelin, Page's staggering dexterity was matched by Plant's expressive, beseeching voice, a combination that flourished on Led Zeppelin II. A greater subtlety was emphasized on Led Zeppelin III, and Led Zeppelin IV included the anthemic 'Stairway To Heaven', 'Black Dog' and 'Rock 'N' Roll'. However, the effusive praise was more muted for Houses Of The Holy. A concurrent US tour helped to finance an in-concert film, issued in 1976 as The Song Remains The Same. Physical Graffiti, a double set, gave full rein to the quartet's diverse interests. Advance orders alone assured Presence platinum status. Although lacking the definition of earlier work, In Through The Out Door was a strong collection on which John Paul Jones emerged as the unifying factor. Rehearsals were then undertaken for another US tour, but in September 1980, Bonham was found dead. On 4 December, Swansong announced that the group had officially retired, although a collection of archive material, Coda, was subsequently issued. Led Zeppelin are now rightly recognized as one of the most influential bands of the rock era.
Q (11/93, p.146) - 3 Stars - Good - "...there is some excellent material [on BOXED SET 2], and Jimmy Page and George Marino have made a sterling job of the remastering..." Melody Maker (10/23/93, p.36) - "...even these shavings [from BOXED SET 2] are improbably bold, brutal and startling. Like being touched up by a gnu..." Audio Mixer: Terry Date. Recording information: Studio Litho, Seattle, WA. At the beginning of the '90s, "metal" was a dirty word. A few bands, such as Metallica, had enough weight to appear as heirs to the metallic crown, but for the most part, it was the province of lightweight pop-metal mavens. How times change. By the end of the decade, metal was ultra-serious, with the typical band tackling somber, even morose, subjects without humor either in their lyrics or music; it was nothing but a constant grind. Staind is very much emblematic of its era, as much as Poison was of its -- which isn't meant to be a slam, actually. ...
