Collecting all of Led Zeppelin's groundbreaking studio albums (as well as a reworked Coda) in one unattractive box, The Complete Studio Recordings is only necessary for hardcore fans wishing to replace their old records. Although the artwork inside the package is lavish, the box features no new material, making it irrelevant for those who already own the first two box sets. Released in 1993, THE COMPLETE STUDIO RECORDINGS is a ten-CD collection of Led Zeppelin's officially released studio albums along with a handful of rarities, all personally remastered by Jimmy Page. After releasing a self-titled, blues-based debut and a harder-rocking follow-up primarily recorded on tour, Led Zeppelin's muse was soon travelling all over the map. On LED ZEPPELIN III, the band retreated to the Welsh countryside, influenced by the folkier side of Joni Mitchell and The Byrds, whereas the HOUSES OF THE HOLY found the band delving into funk and reggae.
Although "Stairway To Heaven" was the epic that defined the band in many people's eyes, it was PHYSICAL GRAFFITTI's "Kashmir" that the surviving members still point to as quintessential Zeppelin. Inspired by a trip to Morocco, the song's hypnotic pace and Middle Eastern flavor exposed millions to that culture long before the term "world music" was coined. PRESENCE showed the band still were vital and no worse for wear. By the time IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR came out in 1979, the band was updating their sound by experimenting with synthesizers. In the midst of preparation for a massive North American tour, John Bonham died. The dates were cancelled and the band quickly broke up. CODA, an outtakes album, was released two years later. All this history and much more is covered in the Cameron Crowe liner notes of the 56-page book included in THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS package.

This 1993 box set contains every official studio-recorded song that Led Zeppelin has ever released. And on top of that, 4 extra songs that were not available anywhere else (except on the Box Set Vol. 1 of 1990 and the Box Set Vol. 2 of 1993) were added to the end of disc 10, 'Coda'.
However, Zeppelin has 2 more songs that were not included in this 1993 box set (or anywhere else) that one could find only on their 'BBC Sessions' album from 1997. Apart from those 2 missing songs, this 1993 box set is as comprehensive as one could get. (It does not have the interpolation of 'Moby Dick' and 'Bonzo's Mantreux', but they are available as two separate songs on this 1993 box set.)
My advice: If you're an ardent Zeppelin fan, or an obsessive completist, or you just got into this great band and would like to own every song they've officially released, then I'd recommend that you get this box set, plus 'How The West Was Won' (which contains longer, different-sounding live recordings of some of their biggest songs), plus 'BBC Sessions' (which contains the 2 songs mentioned above that are not available anywhere else), plus the re-issue of 'The Song Remains The Same' (coming out November '07 and containing 6 extra live versions of songs not included on the original 1976 release).
Trust me, you'll have everything Zeppelin has officially released and you will not have to buy all the other albums that they've released throughout the years. All songs have been digitally remastered and you'll save yourself a lot of money and shelf space.

This 1993 boxed set contains every studio-recorded song that Zeppelin have ever made. And on top of that, 4 extra songs that were not available anywhere else were added to the end of disc 10, 'Coda'. There are, however, 2 more songs by the band that were not included in this boxed set that one could find on their 'BBC Sessions' album from 1997. Apart from those 2 songs, this boxed set is as comprehensive as one could get. My advice; if you're a big Zeppelin fan, or a completist, or you just got into them and would like to own every song they've officially released, then I'd recommend you get this 10-disc boxed set, plus the 3-disc 'How The West Was Won' (which contains longer, different-sounding, live recordings of their songs), plus the 2-disc 'BBC Sessions', plus the 2-disc reissue of 'The Song Remains The Same' (which will contain 6 extra live recordings, coming out November 07). Trust me, you'll have everything they've officially released and you will not have to buy all the other albums that they've released throughout the years.
