After his 1980 album SCREAM DREAM, Ted Nugent spent the next 15 years neglecting his caveman rock stylings, such as CAT SCRATCH FEVER, as he set his sights on the top of the pop-rock charts with releases like LITTLE MISS DANGEROUS, and his work with Damn Yankees. Even his trademark Byrdland guitar was put in storage during this time.
But in 1995, Ted strapped his Byrdland back on, and decided he wanted to return to his raw rock roots, promptly issuing his best solo release in ages--SPIRIT OF THE WILD. Such in-your-face rockers as "Thighraceous," "Wrong Side of Town," and the title track, will bring smiles to the faces of longtime Nugent fans. There's also an older composition, "Fred Bear" (a tribute to a famous archer/hunter who is rumored to have taught Ted), that makes its first album appearance here.
Recorded at Tazmania Studios, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Personnel: Ted Nugent (vocals, guitar); Michael Lutz (vocals, keyboards, bass); Derek St. Holmes (vocals); Doug Banker (piano, background vocals); Benny Rappa (drums, background vocals); Denny Carmassi, Gunner Ross (drums); Larry Fretangelo (percussion).
Entertainment Weekly (4/28/95, p.63) - "...Red-blooded, meat-eating guitar slinger Nugent returns with his 27th(!) album, an intermittently bluesy and surprisingly listenable collection of songs about his favorite subjects: sex, hunting, and survival of the fittest..." - Rating: B+ Ted Nugent Spirit Of The Wild Songs Spirit Of The Wild Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) awsome very good cd i love it along with all the other cds Submitted by Vaughn Strube (Glasford, IL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? 14 Point Buck in Your Backyard You say Ted Nugent and immediately the songs "Stranglehold" "Dog Eat Dog" "Free for All" etc. jump forth. What about albums? "Double Live Gonzo", "Cat Scratch Fever" etc. stand up. The problem with reaching such legendary status is that too often you are defined solely by your legendary work..................while sitting quietly (o.k. an impossibility with Brother Ted) in the corner is the best of the litter ("litter" as in animals ya'll, not garbage). In my opinion this CD is the complete Ted Nugent...the hunter and the musician all rolled up into one bear greased, volume 10, guitar weaving, bow bending, best of the rest musical, bare backed bear ride.......In other words, absolutely the best album (CD) ever put forth by Mr. Nugent.
Honestly, if you think the legendary tunes can't be topped, then I dare you to buy this CD. "Fred Bear" is right there with Great White Buffalo. "Tooth, Fang and Claw" is quite simply one of my all-time favorite songs, "Spirit of the Wild" picks me up every time I give it an ear.
If think you've "heard it all from Mr. Nugent" ...well, you're wrong. Do yourself a favor and buy this CD.

Ted Returns To Legendary Status Here SPIRIT OF THE WILD is Ted Nugent's best CD since 1982's NUGENT. This album's best songs are "Tooth, Fang, And Claw",
"Fred Bear", and "Heart And Soul", but the rest is great, too. This CD is a must-own. Submitted by Adam (Suffern NY USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Spirit Of The Wild
$9.19 Hatfield and the North's second LP stands as a high watermark for the prog rock associated with England's Canterbury scene and, while filled with stunning musicianship, demonstrates both the strengths and some of the weaknesses of the Hatfield style. Dave Stewart on keyboards, Phil Miller on guitar, Richard Sinclair on bass and vocals, and Pip Pyle on drums (supplemented by a few guest instrumentalists and the ever-ethereal Northettes with their "la la" backing vocals) generally show an admirable sense of restraint and, like their Canterbury peers, are careful to avoid the pomposity and bombast of better-known prog rockers of the era, such as Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Yes. But the Hatfields might actually have been light to a fault, particularly whenever a segue from one of their convoluted instrumental passages into a Richard Sinclair vocal vehicle occurred. Sinclair shares a bit of Robert Wyatt's singing approach, or at least Wyatt's more whimsical side, but his polite and mellow croon, while pleasant, is less idiosyncratic and ultimately rather bland. And, don' t look for ...
| | Aerosmith Rocks CD (1976) Remastered
Spirit Of The Wild
$6.75 One of the reasons why Aerosmith, after a number of creatively lean years, are still given legendary credence and an eager ear with each new release, Rocks encapsulated the very essence of rock 'n' roll. They may have been the target of detractors who still pinned them as nothing more than a poor man's Rolling Stones, but Rocks pioneered a strength and swagger and real depth that remains very nearly unsurpassed. From the slowly escalating 'Back In The Saddle' to the dying strains of 'Home Tonight', this album held the full ...
| | Ted Nugent Cat Scratch Fever CD (1977) Remastered
Spirit Of The Wild
$7.59 Digitally remastered by Vic Anesini (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
Though he had already established himself as a successful touring and recording artist in the mid-'70s, His Gonzoness became a certified superstar with 1977's CAT SCRATCH FEVER. Led by the smash title track and other testosterone-fueled anthems, the record went down as a shining moment in heavy metal history.
"Satisfaction," "Smoke on the Water," and "Cat Scratch Fever" are just three of this album's many gems. The title track features Bad Company's Boz Burrell on backing vocals and is centered on a guitar hook that stays in your mind long after the song is over. "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" is a furious rocker that describes Ted's favorite activity (besides hunting). "Death by Misadventure" is a forgotten classic, with an speedy and undeniably stylish solo. Ted's guitar virtuosity is further demonstrated on "Home Bound," his homage to Jeff Beck's "Freeway Jam." "Live It Up," Ted's mantra for the '70s, features percussion by co-producer ...

Spirit Of The Wild
$6.75 Digitally remastered by Vic Anesini (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
Ted Nugent's self-titled 1975 debut solo release is a bold expression of gonzo guitarist's sound, image, and abundant attitude. Ted had what was essentially a touring band with Amboy Dukes bassist Rob Grange, fellow Michiganite Derek St. Holmes on vocals and guitar, and Cliff Davies on drums. During days off from the mega-road trip that preceded this album, the group recorded its first record. Co-produced by famed hard-rock/metal helmsman Tom Werman, "Stranglehold" has the impromptu jamming feel of a live show.
Like "Deuce" for Kiss, the first track of a first album can define an act. "Stranglehold" leads straight into the no-holds-barred "Stormtroopin'," where the riffs are non-stop. The boogieish "Hey Baby" shows why St. Holmes was an underrated, soulful hard-rock vocalist. He howls "got me an overdose of rock & roll" on "Just What the Doctor Ordered." A wicked metal lick introduces "Snakeskin Cowboys." Ted picks his mammoth Gibson Birdland to death ...
| | Ted Nugent Craveman CD (2002)
Spirit Of The Wild
$11.59 You cannot stop Ted Nugent -- heck, you can't even hope to ignore him. Remarkably, even as his musical profile dwindled to near-zero within the greater pop/rock conscience in the late 90s, Nugent cleverly re-asserted himself via his vocal defense of his hard-line conservative politics, arguably achieving even more notoriety in the process, and obtaining an afterlife of sorts for his bread and butter: the music. Not only that, his renewed zest for aggressive self-expression has translated quite positively to his musical direction, making 2002's Craveman (his 19th -- count 'em -- studio L.P. as a solo artist) his fiercest effort in decades, and certainly his heaviest ever. Having realized that any attempt at subtlety or grace would be a waste of his precious hunting time, even "Damned if You Do," which sees him reunited with former Damn Yankees bandmates Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades, is surprisingly ballsy and un-cheesy. Admittedly, Nugent's songwriting ain't what it used to be in the '70s, when his wildman antics and flaming guitar acrobatics created the legend that is; but it's also nowhere near as lame as his confused '80s ...
