Personnel: Ted Nugent (vocals, guitar); Michael Lutz (vocals, keyboards, bass); Derek St. Holmes (vocals); Doug Banker (piano, background vocals); Benny Rappa (drums, background vocals); Denny Carmassi, Gunner Ross (drums); Larry Fretangelo (percussion). Recorded at Tazmania Studios, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Spirit of the Wild ranks as one of Ted Nugent's finest moments because it cuts away the filler and keeps the wildman's tendency for indulgence in check. A fair amount of the material does concern itself with the wilderness, which fits right in with his '90s reinvention as a conservative family-values spokesman. That doesn't mean that it's a tame record -- it means that Nugent sounds committed again, since that passion for hunting and family flows throughout his performance. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine After his 1980 album SCREAM DREAM, Ted Nugent spent the next 15 years neglecting his caveman rock stylings, such as CAT SCRATCH FEVER, as he set his sights on the top of the pop-rock charts with releases like LITTLE MISS DANGEROUS, and his work with Damn Yankees. Even his trademark Byrdland guitar was put in storage during this time. But in 1995, Ted strapped his Byrdland back on, and decided he wanted to return to his raw rock roots, promptly issuing his best solo release in ages--SPIRIT OF THE WILD. Such in-your-face rockers as "Thighraceous," "Wrong Side of Town," and the title track, will bring smiles to the faces of longtime Nugent fans. There's also an older composition, "Fred Bear" (a tribute to a famous archer/hunter who is rumored to have taught Ted), that makes its first album appearance here.Entertainment Weekly (4/28/95, p.63) - "...Red-blooded, meat-eating guitar slinger Nugent returns with his 27th(!) album, an intermittently bluesy and surprisingly listenable collection of songs about his favorite subjects: sex, hunting, and survival of the fittest..." - Rating: B+ Ted Nugent Spirit Of The Wild Songs Spirit Of The Wild Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) awsome very good cd i love it along with all the other cds Submitted by Vaughn Strube (Glasford, IL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? 14 Point Buck in Your Backyard You say Ted Nugent and immediately the songs "Stranglehold" "Dog Eat Dog" "Free for All" etc. jump forth. What about albums? "Double Live Gonzo", "Cat Scratch Fever" etc. stand up. The problem with reaching such legendary status is that too often you are defined solely by your legendary work..................while sitting quietly (o.k. an impossibility with Brother Ted) in the corner is the best of the litter ("litter" as in animals ya'll, not garbage). In my opinion this CD is the complete Ted Nugent...the hunter and the musician all rolled up into one bear greased, volume 10, guitar weaving, bow bending, best of the rest musical, bare backed bear ride.......In other words, absolutely the best album (CD) ever put forth by Mr. Nugent.
Honestly, if you think the legendary tunes can't be topped, then I dare you to buy this CD. "Fred Bear" is right there with Great White Buffalo. "Tooth, Fang and Claw" is quite simply one of my all-time favorite songs, "Spirit of the Wild" picks me up every time I give it an ear.
If think you've "heard it all from Mr. Nugent" ...well, you're wrong. Do yourself a favor and buy this CD.

Ted Returns To Legendary Status Here SPIRIT OF THE WILD is Ted Nugent's best CD since 1982's NUGENT. This album's best songs are "Tooth, Fang, And Claw",
"Fred Bear", and "Heart And Soul", but the rest is great, too. This CD is a must-own. Submitted by Adam (Suffern NY USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Ted Nugent Craveman CD (2002)
Spirit Of The Wild
$11.59 Making his 31st recording, Craveman finds young Ted particularly amped and gloriously pissed off in a way that will remind fans of his earlier pivitol recordings.
