Product Description

Yes album for sale by Yes was released Sep 20, 1994 on the Atlantic (Label) label. Though Yes's name quickly became synonymous with '70s prog rock, their 1969 debut is a far cry from the epic vistas they would later explore. Yes songs Like many '60s bands, they covered the Byrds (the metaphysical "I See You") and the Beatles ("Every Little Thing"). Inspired by the likes of Vanilla Fudge and Rotary Connection, they turned these songs inside out, radically changing the tempos and creating their own elaborate arrangements. Yes CD music contains a single disc with 8 songs.   ...See Full Description

Now you can actually hear it
Yes' first album is Beatles-inspired psychedelic pop, pure and simple. Their covers of Every Little Thing by the Beatles and I See You by the Byrds are almost unrecognizable, but interesting in how far beyond their writers' vision they are.

YES- BEGINNINGS
The first album by YES is a nice collections of tuneful songs- they are equally at home with originals and covers.

Yes beginnings
A very good version of early Yes. Still one of the best recordings of 1969.

Life In Reverse CD (2007)
CD Check Availability  Details (Import)
2007 album from the reunited Pub rockers featuring singer/songwriter Clive Gregson, guitarist extraordinaire Chris Parks and drumming legend Martin Hughes. After a 25 year break, the Trouble boys pick up where they left off when the original line-up split after the Wheels In Motion album (their second). Gregson's songwriting is as sharp and melodic as ever and his voice has never sounded better (although it does retain the charm and exuberance of the 'old days'). With a fine set of songs, Life In Reverse is a welcome return. Now, if only we could convince them to stick around a bit longer. Stiff/ZTT.

In 1972, Yes's brand of classically influenced, larger-than-life progressive rock had not yet been supplanted by the vitriol of punk, and concert-going kids would still greet 20-minute songs performed in their entirety with shrieks of delight and up-raised lighters. YESSONGS captures the group at the height of both its musical power and popularity. Perhaps surprisingly for such a progressive band, * uses the live setting to its advantage, finding musical space to explore even within its complicated arrangements. In some cases, these versions make the album versions sound a bit subdued. Especially compelling is "And You and I" from CLOSE TO THE EDGE, and a smoking rendition of "Roundabout", which one imagines the band wasn't totally sick of playing yet. *SONGS serves as a compelling showcase for the guitar heroics of Steve Howe, from his intimate solo-acoustic "Mood for a Day"...

One of the high-water marks of progressive rock (and thus of 1970s rock in general), CLOSE TO THE EDGE found British prog godfathers * firing on all cylinders. Throughout their history, they've undergone numerous lineup changes, but this album featured the "classic" formation responsible for their absolute finest achievements. Here Rick Wakeman is at his Moog-goes-Baroque best behind the keyboards, Steve Howe sounds like a blues guitarist from Mars, Chris Squire delivers confoundingly contrapuntal bass lines, and Bill Bruford seemingly solves complex mathematical equations from his drum stool. The lion's share of the album is...

Upon the release of 1977's GOING FOR THE ONE and its predecessor, RELAYER, the gap between albums was the longest to date for *. In the interim, keyboardist Patrick Moraz, who replaced Rick Wakeman, departed, and Wakeman returned to the fold. Thus re-energized, the band found its feet again and recorded the finest of their mid-period releases. While the artful ambition of RELAYER hadn't totally disappeared (this was still '70s prog rock after all), there was a new level of visceral energy and concision on the title track and "Wonderous Stories," the latter as close...

The most important aspect of YESSHOWS is its display of the live interaction between the musicians. While * was never accused of being a "jam band," their elaborate, sophisticated arrangements require their own kind of musical telepathy between participants. That connection is apparent throughout the epic "Gates of Delirium" from RELAYER. The pleasure Squire, Anderson, Howe and company still get from playing together is especially apparent on their old chestnut "Time and a Word," a simple but very effective ballad. Digitally remastered by Joe Gastwirt (Ocean View Digital). (keyboards); Chris Squire (bass); Alan White (drums). Recorded at Ahoy-Halle,...

Recorded in 1974. Originally released on Atlantic (18122). Includes liner notes by Doug Gottlieb, Glenn Gottlieb. Carnivorous, alcohol-loving Rick Wakeman was always at odds with the health-food mindset of the other * members, though his brash pomp was at the heart of their sound. When he was replaced by Patrick Moraz (late of '70s prog obscurites Refugee and Mainhorse), it freed the band up to dive headlong into the ethereal, spiritually oriented themes that had always been Jon Anderson's stock in trade. Thus, RELAYER consists of three extended cuts (the 22-minute "Gates of Delirium" was once...
