Yes: Jon Anderson (vocals); Peter Banks, Steve Howe (guitar, background vocals); Tony Kaye (organ); Rick Wakeman (keyboards); Chris Squire (bass instrument, background vocals); Bill Bruford (drums).
Yesterdays is a pleasant but minor compilation of early Yes cuts. Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman put in an appearance on an up-tempo art-rock reworking of Paul Simon's "America"; listen for Bill Bruford's wah-wah bongos. The rest of this record is largely a showcase for the shunned talents of Tony Kaye and Peter Banks, although the song selections pass over the edgier material in favor of hazy tunes like "Survival." The previously unreleased "Dear Father" is a wonderful, if heavily orchestrated, evocation of youthful angst. ~ Paul Collins
Following the massive commercial and artistic success of albums like FRAGILE, THE YES ALBUM and CLOSE TO THE EDGE, Yes released this 1974 collection to remind their audience of the band's beginnings. YESTERDAYS features cuts from the first two Yes albums as well as two previously unreleased early recordings. The early Yes sound was much less complex, closer in spirit to the more forward-looking rock and folk-rock groups of the late-'60s.
"Looking Around" features visceral riffing from original guitarist Peter Banks and simple, buoyant organ from Tony Kaye. "Survival" and "Then" find Jon Anderson beginning to explore the socio-philosophical themes he would develop later in the band's career. A nice surprise comes in the form of a Simon & Garfunkel cover, "America," making plain Yes' initial debt to '60s folk-rock. YESTERDAYS is an intriguing snapshot of a band on their way to something as yet unheard.

4 stars Great Yes Album
I have never considered Yesterdays as being a "compilation" or a "best of" album. Sure most of the songs were taken from the first two Yes albums with the addition of the Paul Simon song America, but this is a great album on its own. Great Yes songs with original guitar player Peter Banks on every song except America. It's too bad that Banks was never included in some of the Yes reunion tours, or some of the 90's Yes lineups. This is a great CD that every Yes fan must have!!

5 stars Yesterdays is great!!!!!!!
yes----sound mighty fine here- i love early yes w/peter banks on guitar. listen to his playing on ASTRAL TRAVELLER! incred--plus,this best of from the 1st two YES albums--features the smooth heavenly voice of JON ANDERSON,and the pounding, relentless, but tasteful melodic bass of CHRIS SQUIRE. i like all the songs a LOT! also--incl AMERICA done in a way only YES can....incl a WILD guitar solo of MAMMOTH proportions by....Steve Howe. YES.........is simply superb here.5 stars!

4 stars A forgotten gem.
More than just a simple compilation of earlier material, "Yesterdays", with it's own unique Roger Dean cover, assumes the identity of an original Yes LP. The bulk of the tracks are lifted from "Yes" and "Time and a word", the first two Yes albums, but the LP does include two original tracks. The most important of these tunes is the Simon and Garfunkel cover "America" which Yes still include in live performances. Don't be put off by the "compilation" status of this recording; this is an important Yes album in it's own right.

Blow Your Face Out

The J. Geils Band: J. Geils (guitar); Seth Justman (vocals, keyboards); Stephen Jo Bladd (vocals, percussion); Peter Wolf (vocals); Magic Dick (harmonica); Danny Klein (bass).
Producers: Allan Blazek, Bill Szymczyk, The J. Geils Band.
Recorded live at The Boston Garden, Boston, Massachusettes on November 15, 1975 and at Cobo Hall, Detroit, Michigan on November 19, 1975. Originally released on Atlantic (2-507). Includes liner notes by Jeff Tamarkin.
This is part of Rhino Records' "Atlantic Remasters" Series.
Double-album live sets came into vogue in 1976 after Peter Frampton's sales went through the roof for A&M, Bob Seger found fame with Live Bullet on Capitol, and the J. Geils Band released its second in-concert document in four years, Blow Your Face Out. There is great power in these grooves recorded over two nights, November 15 and November 19, at the now deconstructed Boston Garden and in Detroit at Cobo Hall. Here's the beautiful dilemma with the Geils band: Live: Full House, recorded in Detroit in April of 1972, contains five songs that became J. Geils standards, and none of them overlap on the 1982 EMI single live disc, Showtime, chock-full of their latter-day classics. Can you believe there is absolutely no overlap from the first or third live album on this double disc, which came in between (except for "Looking for a Love," uncredited, which they slip into the intro of "Houseparty" on side two)? The Rhino CD contains Jeff Tamarkin's liner notes, while the original Atlantic album has an exquisite gatefold chock-full of photos, and inner sleeves with priceless band memo stuff à la Grand Funk's Live Album. Sides one and two are great, and three and four are even better. "Detroit Breakdown" rocks and grooves, with tons of audience applause...Wolfy and the polished authority of his monologues are in command as the band oozes into "Chimes" from 1973's Ladies Invited. About three and a half minutes longer than the five-minute original, it is one of many highlights on this revealing pair of discs. A precursor to 1977's title track, "Monkey Island," "Chimes" gives this enigmatic band a chance to jam out slowly and lovingly over its groove. There is so much to this album: the Janis Joplin standard "Raise Your Hand" written by Eddie Floyd, Albert Collins' "Sno-Cone" ...
