All tracks have been digitally remastered. Genesis: Mike Rutherford (guitar, bass, background vocals); Tony Banks (keyboards, background vocals); Phil Collins (drums, vocals); Additional personnel: Daryl Stuemer (guitar, bass); Chester Thompson (drums). Genesis' second double live LP set in less than four years was originally a kind of a hybrid work, and has appeared in several different editions. There was confusion from the start because, despite its title, Three Sides Live in its British version, as Charisma GE 2002, had four concert sides. The U.S. version, which determined the title, was made up of ten live cuts recorded on-stage in Germany in 1981, with Daryl Stuermer and Chester Thompson in the group's lineup, doing the leaner, more pop-oriented repertory that constituted the group's sound by the early '80s, off of the albums Abacab and Duke. The resulting album offered lean, crisp, and generally bracing accounts of the group's then-current sound -- a mix of pop/rock highlighted by some prodigious musicianship -- and a four-minute glimpse of its progressive rock past in the guise of the "In the Cage Medley," containing "Cinema Show" from Selling England by the Pound. Phil Collins is in good voice throughout and the playing is often impressive, achieving some excitement and intimacy despite the arena-sized audiences to which the group was now playing. The original U.S. version filled out the hour's worth of live 1981 material (ending with "Afterglow") with the Top 40 hit "Paperlate" (which had appeared in England on the EP 3 X 3) and other recent single/EP cuts. Those sides were eliminated when the album was remastered for CD reissue in 1994. Curiously, neither Three Sides Live nor Seconds Out had found room for a live version of the hit single "Your Own Special Way." ~ Bruce Eder & William Ruhlmann Genesis's third live album finds the group at a major turning point. The group had just released ABACAB, successfully trimming its musical fat and turning the corner from post-prog to avant-pop. Overt commerciality hadn't yet set in, so the balance between art and pop was just right on this 1982 release. Naturally, the album leans heavily on ABACAB and DUKE material. From the reggae-ish lilt of "Me & Sarah Jane" to the minimalist electro-rock of "Abacab," it's a pleasure to hear the group exulting in its newfound sound, seemingly free of prog-rock trappings and able to venture into new rhythmic territory. Fortunately for Genesis diehards, though, the group's prog-rock legacy doesn't fade away so easily. Even in the '80s, the in-concert Genesis was still master of the complex art-rock epic style that first brought the group acclaim. Accordingly, the band tackles some of the most structurally sophisticated tunes from its Gabriel-era back catalog, including "Watcher of the Skies" and "The Fountain of Salamacis." Thus, Genesis proves capable of embracing the new without forsaking the old. Bruford rocked! Bill Bruford rocked. He rocked with Yes, King Crimson, and now with Genesis!!! Genesis had good taste in drummers!!! At least for Seconds Out! Submitted by mike_j2005 (mezzanine, sc) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.
Another Great Live Release! Another Classic Live Album. The lives albums got better, the further away they got from Gabriel's shadow. Submitted by Ryan (Los Angeles, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
**CLASSIC** Although this isn't the US version, It's one of my favorite live Genesis disc's (and I'm a diehard Gabriel-era fan). I just bought the re-master version and the sound quality is outstanding. I've seen Genesis concert's ( Duke, Abacab, and Invisible tour) and every time everyone sold-out.
If you're a fan of LIVE Genesis, you will be pleased with this product.
And to those of you who have the us version of this, You're getting the short end of the stick. The last 3 songs are incredible, much better than Paperlate,Etc.
(Hey, who ever said Paperlate was a good song anyway?) Submitted by fchiaro (Gouldsboro pa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Excellent A very solid double disc set of live cuts (and with Paperlate and the bunch available on other EPs, box sets, etc. there is no reaosn to go against this.) The first disc is filled with energetic versions of studio cuts from Duke and Abacab (aside from "Follow You Follow Me") and they are all very well done. The 2nd disc is mostly older material aside from Misunderstanding. Their Cage/Cinema/Slippermen melody keeps moving with a heavy punch, One For The Vine is far superior to the studio recording in terms of both energy and mix, and it's interesting to hear Phil sing Fountain of Salmacis with Chester on the drums. "It" is the only cut that seems a bit rushed, and it is not the full song as it's combined with the closing section of "Watcher of the Skies" but the ending is effective nonetheless.
Treat yourself to this and give it the listen it deserves. Trust your ears, there are sound clips here. Submitted by a reviewer (Cedar Falls, Iowa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Before his breakthrough into the pop mainstream (and success as a composer of film soundtracks), Quincy Jones had a reputation as an ace jazz composer and arranger. THE QUINTESSENCE, recorded in 1961, is one of Jones's finest undiluted jazz outings. The album is a tasty mixture of Jones originals and standards by Thelonious Monk and Benny Golson. Jones's dapper, economical, and swinging arrangements feature superb soloists, including Phil Woods (merely one of the finest alto saxophonists in jazz history), Clark Terry, and Freddie Hubbard. Three Sides Live
$9.39 Though not as successful in the U.K. as preceding albums, 2007's MAKE ANOTHER WORLD is one of Idlewild's strongest outings. Bristling with immediacy, the record is easily the Scottish alternative-rock ensemble's heaviest offering, as evinced on the driving rhythms and barbed guitar parts of "If It Takes You Home" and "A Ghost in the Arcade." It's to that louder, harder, heavier prowess that Idlewild returns its sights ...
