| | Bette Midler No Frills CD Bette Midler Discography of CDs
Bette Midler is a gifted entertainer, whether acting or singing. On this 1983 album, No Frills, she showcases numbers that take flavorings from pop, disco, and rock & roll. Midler has a way of making any song she sings her own, but some of the tracks on this recording might stir memories of other artists. Aaron Neville and Linda Rondstat did an admired version of "All I Need to Know." "Beast of Burden" became a hit for the Rolling Stones. Other songs on No Frills that deserve a mention include "My Eye on You," "Favorite Waste of Time," and "Only in Miami." The latter is a Latin-type number she did before the style became popular in the American market. Though this album isn't one of her very best, it's still a great recording to add to any music collection that belongs to a Bette Midler fan. ~ Charlotte Dillon

No Frills album
$14.45 Paul A. Rothchild produced the final Janis Joplin studio album, Pearl, as well as many a Doors disc, and the late producer was the perfect guy to tackle this tribute to Joplin featuring "The Divine Miss M" as "Pearl"/"The Rose." In March of 1980, the version of "When a Man Loves a Woman" from this 1979 film soundtrack went Top 35, and Midler's biggest hit followed her Oscar nomination, but it was a well-produced version of the title track, different from the album, which went Top Three, the gold single the biggest of her six hits up to this point in time. It's a strange twist of events, Bette's previous 1979 album, Thighs and Whispers, has technically better sounds, Arif ...

No Frills songs
$6.09 The Divine Miss M's sixth release on Atlantic, and the one right before The Rose, finds the singer reunited with producer Arif Mardin, who contributed to her self-titled second album. Despite Bette Midler being in fine voice for Thighs and Whispers, a play on the title Cries and Whispers, a 1972 offering from film director Ingmar Bergman, and outside of a terrific version of Johnny Bristol's 1974 Top Ten solo hit "Hang on in There Baby," this 1979 disc is stuck in the '70s when an artist of Midler's stature should have made a recording that was her ode to the decade of decadence. The disco beat on most of the album ...

No Frills music CDs
$6.85 Mostly recorded at Taylor's home studio, ONE MAN DOG is an atypical release for a man known for putting out straightforward sets of his distinctive brand of folk-rock. This release from 1972 came after Taylor had achieved a good measure of stardom, and was free to explore some untraditional approaches. After this record, he returned to a more straight-forward format, but ONE MAN DOG has a relaxed, pastoral vibe that makes for enjoyable listening.
The record consists of 18 shortish pieces strung together: traditional pop/folk songs, like the graceful single "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight," as well as humorous, off-the-cuff gems like the ode to a favorite food "Chili Dog," a jig, a drug song ("Mescalito"), and several ...
