There have been few live acts as explosive and relentless as the J. Geils Band were during the 1970s. Their studio albums couldn't have prepared their fans for the band's sheer onstage energy. So after only a pair of studio albums had hit the racks (1970's self titled debut and 1971's THE MORNING AFTER), the group issued its first live set, 1972's LIVE FULL HOUSE.
LIVE FULL HOUSE is one of the J. Geils Band's finest releases. While there aren't many certified hits here besides "Looking For a Love," the songs and the performances are still top notch, especially the intense rave-up "Whammer Jammer," and such other rockers as "Cruisin' For Love" and "Hard Drivin' Man."
Recorded live at the Cinderella Ballroom, Detroit, Michigan on April 21-22, 1972. Originally released on Atlantic (7241).
Digitally remastered by George Marino.
J. Geils Band: J. Geils (guitar); Stephen Jo. Bladd (vocals, drums); Peter Wolf (vocals); Magic Dick (harp); Seth Justman (piano, organ); Daniel Klein (bass).

Live in Detroit This is just outright fun party time music. Peter Wolf's voice is raspy and rapid fire, never better. Magic Dick's harmonica wails, especially on "Whammer Jammer," a full tilt boogie number. My personal favorite is "Hard Drivin' Man," which features some nice bluesy piano and more harp work by Dick. Geils was never a flashy guitar whiz, but the band does what it does best by backing up Wolf and keeping to its blues roots. Great stuff for a party. And hey, it was recorded in my hometown, Detroit, so what could be better? Submitted by Johnny Motown (Detroit) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Heard It? Heard it? I lived it. Hate to give away my age but what can I say, this Detroit rocker watched in awe as these guys ripped up the stage like they were the Stones or something. No one, not even security was sitting still at that show. The cool thing is I seen them at the palace when 2000 rolled in. If Y2K or the end of time was going to happen, there would have not been a better way to kiss it all good bye. Wolf and the band performed as if time had stood still for them all those years later. Loved them from day one and ain't stopped yet. If you dig real music, this is where you need to be! Submitted by dddommer (Detroit, MI, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Gentle Men start your engines....... This CD is not for the faint hearted! If by the end of the first song some part of your body is not movin and groovin you'd better check your pulse. This CD is HIGH energy. A must for any party. 30 years latter my kids start jumping around when I play this and even request that I play it! The only draw back is that it's too short. It leaves you wanting for more. Too bad a remastered disc with some long lost selections to compliment the originals can't be added. Turn it up, play it loud and hope that everybody is still standing when the smoke clears. If you're a Rock N Roll fan this is a must for your collection. | | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Live Full House album
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and producer Kooper has ...

$19.99 True, this 25-track, single-disc compilation isn't as extensive as the two-CD set usually hailed as the best Johnny Rivers collection, Rhino's Anthology, 1964-1977. It's also true that it's missing a few of the Rivers singles that tickled the bottom half of the Top 100, like "Cupid" and "These Are Not My People."
