She was doing it before Britney Spears, and she was doing it better. Teen princess Jennifer Love Hewitt attained a level of popularity based predominantly on her immensely likeable girl-next-door appeal. But before she became a household name with TV's Party of Five and as the heroine of the I Know What You did Last Summer movies, she was recording albums. This eponymous CD was her second American release, and though she poses no threat to the Celine Dions and the Lorrie Morgans of the world, her feathery light voice is more soulful than you'd imagine. The tracks on this album are all R&B-flavored pop and adult contemporary, and, though they're slickly produced, they complement Hewitt instead of overpowering her. Yes, most of the lyrics are the usual teen odes to love, loss, and longing, but there's a maturity to them as well that transcends most cookie-cutter pop. On "I Always Was Your Girl," she sings "You put your friends through hell/that's why we get along so well," obviously not capitalizing on the "nice" girl image she was on the cusp of practically owning; on "Cool With You," she pines to right a relationship so that all can be cool again; and on "It's Good to Know I'm Alive" from the House Arrest soundtrack (in which she starred) she sings with such joy and abandon, you'll want to sing along, too. Depending on your threshold for harmless, white-bread teen pop, this album could be a welcome addition to your collection because, frankly, it makes you like her even more than her image did in the first place. ~ Bryan Buss

In Love with Love Most people don't even know that this cd exists or haven't sat down and taken the time to listen to it. I bought it years ago! I have followed her since Kids Incorporated and have always loved her voice. It is so soft and relaxing.. anytime I want a good album to just sit and listen to and relax I pop in this cd. Great to sing along to also! Anyone who hasn't taken the time to really listen to the songs is missing out! Submitted by Sunny (Fostoria, OH, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Jennifer Love Hewitt is a True Artist This is one of the best albums we have ever heard. Every song on it is good... make that great! She has the most beautiful voice and deserves more recognition for her vocal talent. We think that she deserves an award for this album as well as her latest Barenaked and Let's Go Bang! She is fenominal and the songs on this album are creative, moving, and have a really good beat. We can sit an listen to it all day long without a second thought. There isn't a single song that we would skip on this album! Submitted by Tonya & Peddy (Phoenix) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
not good i dont understand any of you people who rated this cd over 2 stars. The music is okay and her voice is not even okay. The worst part of it is the change of moods. A solo artist is just that, an ARTIST. Artists can paint, draw, play an instrument or sing to convey they're feelings. The contrasting emotions between songs is just not well done and frankly I find it somewhat insulting that Hewitt and the people that made her cd did not try harder to produce a good album. There's some potential for some good songs there but as of now I just dont see it. Submitted by A. R. (Iowa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Listen without Prejudice! You know, I get a laugh out of people comparing Love to J-Lo, saying that she's a wanna-be J-Lo. Do a little research before you speak and you'll discover that Jennifer Love Hewitt was recording albums before she was a huge TV/Movie star, and long before anyone had heard of J-Lo.
I have to say that this is probably my favorite album of hers. It's the kind of album that after you listen to it a couple times, you just let it play beginning to end. Sure, I have a few favorite songs for different moods, but in general I like the whole thing. It's nice to brighten your day with. Thanks Love!
P.S. I've read a few people saying that she has a weak voice. Either they have no clue what they're talking about or they havent actually heard her sing! As a TRAINED solo singer and musician, I would love to work with someone who has as distinct and smoothe a voice as Love. Give it a listen! Listen without Prejudice! Relentlessly contemporary, RAY OF LIGHT pairs Madonna with producer William Orbit, an electronics wizard who has worked with major R&B acts and even such modern rockers as Blur and Depeche Mode. Reportedly, Madonna tried to snare Liam Howlett of high-strung techno-rockers the Prodigy into the project--Howlett claims to have turned her down. But the more dextrous, less in-your-face Orbit was probably a better choice anyway. He provides a dizzying array of soundscapes, incorporating everything from ...

| | Marshall Chapman Mellowicious ! CD (2006) Digipak
Jennifer Love Hewitt
$12.59 Ever since Marshall Chapman cranked out four albums in five years during her late-'70s and early-'80s heyday, the husky-voiced roots rocker has been far less prolific. In fact, this is Chapman's first studio project in almost a decade and only second since 1991's Inside Job. She has written an autobiography during that time, but given her status as a groundbreaking female country-rock artist and the amount of years between releases, this is a relatively disappointing comeback. Chapman's voice has matured to a rugged, grainy instrument, somewhat similar to Lucinda Williams, and she hasn't lost her distinctive timber. But, as the title indicates, the disc leans to the singer's mellow side. That would be fine if it didn't seem to have been recorded on the cheap with co-producer Mike Lawler playing all the instruments. The multiple overdubs that make this possible along with an over-reliance ...
