| | Funky Jazz Party CD
Funk is pretty consistently sacrificed to the romantic imperative on this pleasant, but ultimately not very interesting, collection. There's a gentle strut underlying Rick Brown's smooth-jazz trumpet showcase "Nightfall," and Avenue Blue shakes its understated booty on "A Woman's Touch." But Steve Cole's "Stay Awhile" is more typical -- it buries any perceptible rhythmic tension under a thick, warm aural blanket. Randy Crawford's "I'd Be an Angel" is a very nice song and Smoke n'Function gives up the genuine funk on "Smokee." The only important question about an album like this is that of utility -- will it get the listener in the mood? Probably, as long as he or she isn't an anal retentive music critic. ~ Rick Anderson
Includes liner notes by Keith Lyle.

Funky Jazz Party album
$38.09 DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities ...

Funky Jazz Party music CDs
$12.35 There's a good and bad side of releasing old material that's been buried in a record label's vault or someone's attic. If the material's solid, say a live date from an artist's prime, then it's a Godsend. If the material is weak, or repeats earlier releases in a weaker form, it does a disservice to the artist. Luckily for fans of pianist Jaki Byard, the quartet recordings on Last From Lennie's are bursting with creative energy. Taped on April 14, 1965, Byard is joined by saxophonist Joe Farrell, bassist George Tucker, and drummer Alan Dawson ...
| | Van Morrison Brown Eyed Girl CD (2004) (Import) Import; Germany
Funky Jazz Party songs
$11.79 BROWN EYED GIRL is a budget compilation of songs by the great Van Morrison. His early-career hit "Brown-Eyed Girl" is here alongside such exploratory masterpieces as "Madame George."
This ten-song compilation from the Delta imprint, by way of Sony Music's European division, is very much reminiscent of the old Best of Van Morrison on the U.K. President label -- it didn't look like much, with cheesy-looking packaging, but it was a handy way into Morrison's Bang Records sides, assembling his most accessible sides in one place, and in their best versions. Brown Eyed Girl does more or less the same thing on CD, putting the uncensored "Brown Eyed Girl" on with the album versions on nine additional songs, mastered in state-of-the-art digital ...
