If Hits seems a little inadequate, even though it weighs in at 16 tracks, that's because Phil Collins had such a long, productive run. Also, to casual listeners (and possibly even some fans), it's hard to tell which singles are by Genesis and which ones are solo cuts. So, it's almost a certainty that listeners will find something missing from this disc -- and not just because Genesis cuts are absent, but because there's not enough space to fit all of Collins' solo hits, especially since the compilers decided to include a couple of lesser, latter-day hits at the expense of some earlier, bigger ones, while adding his non-LP cover of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" to entice hardcore fans. Thus, there are only 13 hits, which means some other big hits and good songs are absent -- "I Missed Again," "I Don't Care Anymore," "Don't Lose My Number," "Do You Remember?" are all MIA. A few of these omissions are quite regrettable, but in the end, Hits is nevertheless a representative and pretty entertaining collection. The sequencing is not chronological, so it doesn't develop a nice flow (although "Take Me Home" is admittedly the ideal closer), but the chief strength of this collection is that it puts all of the big hits - including "Easy Lover," "Against All Odds," "In the Air Tonight," "Sussudio," "One More Night" and "Separate Lives" -- in one place. No, it's not perfect -- and it's hard not to wish that it was -- but Hits still contains the majority of Collins' solo smashes, and that alone makes it a nice addition to his catalog. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine In the early '80s, Collins took a break from the helm of Genesis to inaugurate a solo career that abandoned his group's art-rock agenda for a mainstream pop approach. In the ensuing years, the king of Nice Guy Pop established himself as one of the world's premier top 40 balladeers, as evidenced by the wall-to- Hits Music | List Price | $18.98 (You save $4.33) | | Category | Rock Albums, Pop CDs, Rock/Pop | | Label | Atlantic | | Orig Year | 1998 | | All Time Sales Rank | 36 | | CD Universe Part number | 1097831 | | Catalog number | 83139 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Oct 06, 1998 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Personnel | Greg Phillinganes - piano, Wurlitzer piano Michael Thompson Michael Thompson Michael Landau Phil Collins - vocals, keyboards, drums, tambourine, drum programming Arnold McCuller - vocals Dominic Miller Marilyn Martin Daryl Stuermer Shankar - violin Peter "Scene" Robinson Amy Keys Eric Nigler - Uileann pipes Ronnie Caryl

The Hits + This is a fine collection and deserves a 5 star rating, but would have been even better with the following: Long, Long Way To Go, Don't Lose My Number, Inside Out. I am sure there is even more unsung hits, that should have been included. We will have to wait for a more expanded hits collection. Personnel includes: George Michael, Elton John, Astrud Gilberto, Aretha Franklin, Queen. Producers: George Michael, Jon Douglas, Narada Michael Walden, Queen. When George Michael was riding high on the charts, only a handful of critics acknowledged that he was a brilliant mainstream pop singer/songwriter who, at his best, rivaled his idol Elton John in crafting state-of-the-art pop songs and productions. For nearly a full decade, he was a superstar in his native U.K. and the U.S., and even when Older failed to win an American audience, he retained his stranglehold ...

| | Aquabats Myths, Legends & Other Amazing Adventures Vol. 2 CD (2000)
Hits
$11.85 Myths, Legends... is a collection of B-sides, outtakes, and other sundry from the vaults of the Aquabats. Taken from over the space of three or more years, it's an odd mishmash of this and that. Some power pop tunes, some of the standard ska/pop-punk that the Aquabats started with. Plenty of silly songs, some of which goes far beyond some of the weirdness that the band has included on their albums. "Worms Make Dirt" is a synth-heavy bit of earthy weirdness, highlighted with keyboard playing little ...
| | Stalking Roxy Look In The Mirror CD (2004)
Hits
$9.69 Stalking Roxy joined LA's underground music scene in early 2001, with youth on their side and the love of punk, alternative rock, and bright third-wave ska in their hearts. Lead by Deziree Zuniga, a powerful and charismatic front woman, this 6-piece band has created the catchiest, ska-influenced music to have left California since the third-wave ska boom. Stalking Roxy's heavy lean on rock while still blasting away with intense horns instantly brings comparisons to No Doubt, Save Ferris, and Mealticket -yet the band maintains the ska feel throughout with nods to Reel Big Fish, Mustard Plug and Catch 22.After releasing their first six song EP, 'Jake's Fury,' in June of 2002, Staling Roxy was asked to be part of American Ska history with the track "Ska Band" appearing on the STILL STANDING 4xCD box set (5000+ copies). Soon after, Stalking Roxy toured California extensively and truly found a voice all their own - conquering Los Angeles and Orange County by way of The Knitting Factory, ...

| | Vern Gosdin Chiseled In Stone CD (1988)
Hits
$5.95 The 1980s were the beginning of a run of fine albums for Vern Gosdin that continued into the 21st century. It's true that he wasn't always as popular as he was in the late '60s and mid-'70s, but from his period on Compleat through his signing with Columbia and on into American Harvest Recordings in the late '90s, Gosdin has made solid, tough, and aesthetically beautiful country records. The new traditionalists, led by Dwight Yoakam, were the very movement that helped Gosdin regain popular acceptance for a time from the mid-'80s through 1993. Chiseled in Stone ranks as arguably his finest moment of that period. Produced by Bob Montgomery, the album features a deck of tunes from Gosdin and co-writers Hank Cochran and Dean Dillon; if Gosdin didn't co-write, Dillon and Cochran did. What's more, these songs were all written for Gosdin's wonderfully worn yet astonishingly versatile voice. "Do You Believe Me Now," the darkest and most wrenching song on the album, opens it. It's the story of a man on skid row who is suddenly and unexpectedly visited by his ex, and he convinces her by his very ravaged existence that he cannot live without her and asks the question in the title. As Sonny Garrish's steel winds out underneath Gosdin's vocal, all of the pain and pathos in the song comes at the listener full force, yet with the softness of Gosdin's voice, it is believable as a tender revelation as ...
