Greek composer/keyboardist Vangelis has been through so many stylistic mutations over the years that it's hard to pin down his musical center. From the progressive rock of his band Aphrodite's Child to his art pop collaborations with Yes vocalist Jon Anderson and his romantic film score work, he's shown many sides of a complex artistic persona. EL GRECO extends his vision one step further. Inspired by and dedicated to legendary 16th century Greek painter El Greco (Domenikos Theotokopoulos), this is an impressionistic aural landscape. The album is filled up by a single 11-movement symphonic piece written by Vangelis and rendering in a surprisingly organic manner on his arsenal of keyboards. Fans of his film scores should find much to enjoy in this delicate work full of sophisticated but friendly textures.
Includes liner notes by Vangelis.

El Greco Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Good and original album very good, it remaind me a bit Conquest of Paradise because of the latin way of playing the music ! Excellent album as most of Vangelis work. Submitted by vitacur (The Netherlands) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Good Vocals! Nice thing from Vangelis!
I especially appreciate 4th track's vocal.
The entire album somewhat reminds 'Oceanic'
in style.
4 stars because of slightly distracting noise
throughout track #3 or #2 (I'm not sure which one).

| | Vangelis Mythodea: Music For The Nasa Mission: 2001 Mars Odyssey CD (2001)
El Greco album
$8.99 Includes liner notes by Dr. Jim Garvin, Laurence Bergreen, and Vangelis.
Mythodea is subtitled "Music for the NASA Mission: 2001 Mars Odyssey," and it's certainly an epic work. If its aspirations were any higher, it wouldn't even need NASA to break earth's gravity. In essence, it's the focus of Vangelis' symphonic ambitions, utilizing not only an orchestra, but two sopranos and a full choir to go alongside his banks of keyboards. With an everything-plus-the-kitchen-sink attitude, "Movement 1" shows its Mars intentions by borrowing the 5/4 rhythm from Holst's "Mars" and overlaying it with symphonic stabs of melody and voices galore. Synth space noises, pomp, and afew circumstances. ~ Chris Nickson

| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
El Greco CD music
$6.19 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite ...

And it doesn't have to be Christmas for anyone to enjoy this CD-the carols are so unlike the carols we normally associate with Christmas that we can delight in the music at any time of the year. With a sprinkling of light jazz, contemporary pop, new age fusion and a very improvisational feel, Rick Seaton offers charming renditions of familiar melodies that delight, uplift and inspire on the one hand, and that make us pause for reflection on the other. Just a few observations on some of the eleven pieces- A sprightly version of "O Little Town of Bethlehem" stirs together fuzz guitar, piano, recorder, drums, and cymbals to yield a very contemporary version of this ages-old song. "In the Bleak Midwinter" is a passionate piano solo that instantly draws one into a concert setting. Close your eyes and be carried away. A carpet of synth music introduces "It came Upon a Midnight Clear" which is then carried along by piano, again, as the synth flows in and out to punctuate and enhance further verses on flute. A slight off-beat gives a new and different, but nice version. "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" presents us with a syncopated beat that further enhances the more contemporary feel of the whole album. Harp and angelic voices caress our ears with a lovely rendition of "Coventry Carol" and "Away in a Manger", and then the CD rounds out with a rousing, Celtic-type version of "Masters in This Hall". As I said, the music presented ...
