(5 Customer Reviews)
HAUNTED, Poe's second release, is a concept album inspired by some recordings she found of her late father's speaking voice. Poe sampled those recordings and incorporated them into a narrative that's ostensibly about her feelings for and relationship with her father. The more you listen, though, the clearer it becomes that HAUNTED is an album about the big issues that affect all of humanity (life, death, family). The effect of the dead man's voice framed by Poe's eclectic arrangements (rock, hip-hop, electronica and more) is an eerie one, but there's enough thematic consistency and solid songwriting here to make the album a powerful statement rather than just an exercise in nostalgic melancholy.
She appeared in the mid 1990's, riding a wave of female singer/songwriters that invaded the pop scene in the wake of the dominance of grunge. Her music is described as 'folk-hop', generating comparisons to the sound of Portishead. This edition includes the single "Wild" and a bonus track, 'Hey Pretty (Drive By 2001 Mix).

Haunted Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Poe Walks The Walk! I first took notice of Poe when I heard "Angry Johnny" five years ago and greatly anticipated the release of "Haunted". All I can say is "Wow". This is without a doubt the ultimate greatest concept album ever. Poe's lyrics range from the poetical (no pun intended) to the reflective, bitter to sweet, vengeful tovindicating. I love how one minute she can warble a ballad and the next she is literally rocking out. Vocally, she has never sounded better, especially on songs such as "5 and 1/2 Minute Hallway", "Spanish Doll" and the title track. At the close of "If You Were Here", one can only hope that she has found the closure she so desperately needed with her father. By the way, if you ever get a chance to see her live, go go go! Poe is the Queen of expressing feelings She has the best sound when it comes to quite
time. I listen to her all the time when I feel depressed or when I want to have some real fun!!! I like the different angle she takes by putting her father's voice in her songs. Even thoe he's dead she still has him playing a role in her music. Submitted by a reviewer (Memphis,TN,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
This aptly named album is a must have! Ever since I was introduced to Poe a couple of years ago, I have been waiting for her new album. Even though I enjoyed the first one a lot, I was afraid that this new one might not be up to the same high standard as the first. I could not have been more wrong! This one is a perfect compliment to Hello, and I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoyed the first album. It is almost certain to touch your life in some way. Outstanding!!!! WOW! Haunted is by far one of the best CD's I've heard in sometime. This is Poe at her best! I've been a Poe fan ever since I heard Angry Johnny on the radio. I thought then Poe had a great CD, but she has really out done herself. This CD was well worth the wait! Her first single "Walk the Walk" really has a great feel to it. I'm sure it will be in the top 10!! Buy it!!! Submitted by bathens (Charleston SC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Poe is back 5 years have passed since Hello was released, and listening to this album, one could imagine that she's been doing nothing but writing songs this entire time. "Haunted" contains 17 tracks that really reach out and take you to a different place. If you liked Hello, and even if you didn't like Hello, you need to get this album.

Haunted album
$11.49 Named for a town near Bristol, England, Portishead is a British dance band that grabs ideas from all over the mod pop world (spaghetti Western guitars, turntable scratching, melancholy soul vocals, atmospheric organs, house beats) and stirs them into spacey, dub-like productions that sound like a dance club in the middle of a "Twin Peaks" dream. You could call it surreal hip-hop pop. But if the beats on the band's debut album achieve a kind of trance-like static, the songs themselves reach for something more rousing. With understated ...

Seldom has an album title been as appropriate as ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHIND. Here, U2 returns to its pre-irony '80s glory days with a straightforward rock approach, leaving behind the electronics and intentional mock-decadence of POP and ZOOROPA. It quickly becomes clear however, that the band had to make those albums in order to get to the ego-free state from which this one emerges. While Larry Mullen's driving beat, Adam Clayton's insistently throbbing bass, the Edge's chiming guitar, and Bono's soulful vocals mesh as in the days ...

Approaching Tool's LATERALUS with a casual ear would be a careless endeavor, to say the least. The sheer magnitude of the musical and emotional textures is as heady as it is primal. Standing out as one of the defining traits of the Tool sound is Justin Chancellor's hauntingly melodic bass playing, which often launches into a role ...
