Buffalo Springfield Last Time Around CD

 undiscovered gem!!!!
It amazes me how many people buy into the bad mouthing this album has received over time. This is the Springfield's most cohesive and well recorded album of their catalog. I always thought Jim Messina was playing all the bass parts till I read the liner notes for the box-set and discovered that the late Bruce Palmer was playing those killer bass licks in songs like "Questions". That song alone makes this record a true classic.

 Much Better Than Even Given Credit For....
When I first heard "Uno Mundo" I found it hard to believe it was the Springfield... but you could not miss the voice of Stephen Stills. What a classic Stills song! I believe part of the problem for the public was the fact that the album was mainly a Furay/Messina outting. With Jim Messina being more of the driving force in terms of production and writing. We had all come to expect the hard edge of Neil Young and Stephen Stills to dominate the music... not so in this case. Yet, the record itself is a pure gem. It was sad from a listener prospective to know that the band had broken up by the time the actual LP was released. The music is a pure as it could get for the time and from a band in major disarray. This is simply a classic record... no question, no argument.

 A much undervalued contribution
Last Time Around is a much underrated album, not giving the imploding Springfield the credit they deserved. Today, a band would be less likely to take responsibility to fulfill the contractual obligations with new and original music. If nothing else, the album clearly laid the foundation for the future direction of the principal members.

 Where did it all go wrong ?
After a great start with the first two albums this is a great dissapointment. There is not one song on this album worthy of inclusion on either of the first two.The album is dominated by Stephen Stills annoying voice and Neil Young is virtually invisible, contibuting very little . Perhaps if this is the direction they were going it is probably for the best that they called it a day.

 Always the best-Still the best
I am tired of everyone trashing this album. This contains the best work by the individual members of the band. Stephen Stills songs are the best of any of his work to date, reguardless of the band he was with, and the recording and mastering far exceeds any previous springfield work.
