While continuing to improve its musical chops and explore more progressive territory, Dream Theater reached its mainstream apex with 1992's IMAGES AND WORDS. Here the group capably combined prog-rock high-mindedness with metal crunch and commercial accessibility on the opening track "Pull Me Under," helping to snare an audience big enough to push this album past gold sales status.

What makes IMAGES AND WORDS stand out is the fluid marriage of shred tactics, soaring vocals, and catchy hooks, all wrapped up in a polished studio sound. Fans can argue whether this is the band's best, but there is no denying the power of epic, engaging songs like "Take the Time," "Under a Glass Moon," and "Metropolis - Part I," a track that foreshadowed the 1999 outing SCENES FROM A MEMORY. Following IMAGES AND WORDS, Dream Theater became increasingly complex in its approach, to varying degrees of success, but this album represents a time when the ensemble brought progressive metal to the masses with little compromise.

5 stars Intense
This was the first album I ever got by Dream Theater, as a recommendation from a friend, and little did I know they would become my favorite band of all time, as well as one of my biggest influences. Every song is brilliant, but certain ones stick out...Take The Time is absolutely amazing, with solo after solo after solo blowing you away. Metropolis Pt. 1, my favorite song on the album, is indescribable, it's just fantastic. The five-minute instrumental section in the middle is probably THE MOST progressive musical stuff I have ever heard in my life. Pull Me Under, Under A Glass Moon, and Learning To Live also stick out, while Another Day, Surrounded, and Wait For Sleep are amazingly beautiful. Instrumental stuff aside, James Labrie's singing on this album is also extremely impressive and when I first heard this album he immediately became my favorite singer of all time. Of course, I now own all of Dream Theater's albums and this isn't exactly my favorite (because much of their later stuff is just too absolutely incredible), but Images And Words will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. This is a must-have CD.

5 stars Very energetic and powerful
Dream Theater certainly has a unique way to combine lyrics and music to create a masterpiece. Images and Words is no exception. With songs such as Pull Me Under, Take The Time, and Under a Glass Moon, this album is yet another masterpiece just as Awake and When Dream and Day Unite. Overall, this is a must have in your Dream Theater collection.

Dream Theater's web of metal and progressive elements comes roaring out of the speakers at full throttle like some manic coupling of Frank Zappa, Guns & Roses and Yes, a garish torrent of virtuoso chopsmanship, classical flourishes and good old fashioned nosebleed metal. With his snaking, syncopated lines, complicated rhythmic variations and crunching tone, Dream Theater's John Petrucci is a guitar hero for the '90s, and string slingers who admire the likes of Alan Holdsworth and Steve Vai will find much to admire in his unhinged extended flights on "Voices" and "Erotomania." ...

Bfus BiographyGoing back to as far as his childhood years, Bfus has always been a music lover. He started playing the keyboard from the young age of eight. Prior to this, the young musical genius would usually invent his own musical instruments [wooden guitars and aluminum tin drums] which he would use to provide music for family devotions at home. Bfus was born and raised in the small island of St. Croix, Virgin Island, the largest of the 3 U.

S-owned islands in the Caribbean. He is the 5th of 11 children (born to the same mother and father). In 1994, shortly after graduating from high school, he left his well-paying job and relocated to Miami, Fl. where he currently resides with his wife, Della (high school sweetheart) and his three beautiful daughters.

In the summer of 1994, he joined "Derryck Douglas and The Evangelites", a newly-formed local gospel group. With Bfus on keyboards and the group's only other musician, Tony Barrett, on drums, the group went on to perform at many local churches, concerts, and other events. Thanks to his producing skills, Bfus was privilege to produce the group's first album "Jesus Say Yes" which was released in the fall of 1995. The album did great at the local level. The number one song on the album, "WHEN THE DEVIL SAYS NO, JESUS SAY YES" may be heard at churches and gospel concerts. The group got much of its exposure in the island of Jamaica where they were featured for two consecutive years (96-97) on a number of concerts, including an all night concert in Spanish Town, Jamaica and one in Montego, Bay, Jamaica. After leaving the group in 1997, Bfus went on and produced a solo album for the group's leader, singer and songwriter, Derryck Douglass. Since then, Bfus has grown and matured into a well respected and sought after "producer", "musician", and very soon to be a "solo artist". He has produced projects for a number of artists including: Dwain Walters, Joy, Steve Burrell, Clement ...
