(8 Customer Reviews)
Quoted, recommended, and worshipped by the critics for decades, this underground masterpiece has now become part of the establishment. It cries to be listened to without interruption, which may explain why it failed to reach either the UK or US charts. It wanders and weaves, repeating themes and lyrics as if one song, yet we never tire of "gardens wet with rain," "champagne eyes," or the wonder of how Morrison can make a place like Ladbroke Grove seem so hauntingly evocative. This all-acoustic but fully arranged record is also a great educator in opening your eyes beyond pop, to folk, soul, and jazz, and although (or perhaps because) Morrison continues to return to its themes again and again, this is his core.
Includes liner notes by Van Morrison.

Personnel includes: Van Morrison (vocals, acoustic guitar); Larry Fallon (arranger); Jay Berliner (guitar); John Payne (flute, soprano saxophone); Warren Smith, Jr. (vibraphone, percussion); Richard Davis (bass); Connie Kay (drums).
Rolling Stone (12/11/03, p.98) - Ranked #19 in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums Of All Time" - "...ASTRAL WEEKS is Morrison going deep inside himself, to the far corners of his life and art, without a net or fear..." Q (6/00, p.89) - Ranked #6 in Q's "100 Greatest British Albums" - "...Its musical daring, mantra-like incantations and kaleidoscopic use of language [is] still beyond cosy categorization....recalling his provincial, '50s Belfast youth with an almost feverish imigination and regret..." Q (Magazine) (p.140) - "[O]ne of rock's crowning glories and, with Morrison at times entering an almost trance-like state of rapture, the very apex of his art." Van Morrison Astral Weeks Songs Astral Weeks Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews I wish I could give it 50 stars! Without doubt, the finest record ever made. Persevere thru initial listenings and you will be richly rewarded. Wonderful musicianship, wonderful songs, wonderful vibe. It's difficult to comprehend how a so-young Morrison could produce such a developed, timeless and mature classic. Honestly, do yourself a favour - get this. Listen to Madame George, Sweet Thing, Slim Slow Slider etc etc - you'll thank me later. (incidentally, I'm amongst those not certain if The Way Young Lovers Do fits the overall vibe .... great song though). ESSENTIAL. Submitted by brian (Dublin, Ireland) Was This Review Helpful? Astral Weeks album
$8.75 The dark night of the soul that culminated in ASTRAL WEEKS found its counterpart in Morrison's next two albums, the seminal MOONDANCE and its subsequent sister, HIS BAND & THE STREET CHOIR. Both released in 1970, these latter two albums defined the folk/soul/blues amalgam that would prove to be the foundation of Morrison's music. The photos inside ...

Astral Weeks CD music
$8.65 It's unusual for a decade-defining record to come out in that decade's first year, but that was clearly the case with MOONDANCE. While it would have been one of the finest albums of any decade, it clearly marked a turning point both for Van Morrison and for rock as a whole. Coming after 1968's expansive, acoustic, jazz-inflected ASTRAL WEEKS, MOONDANCE marks a complete about-face: instead of looking inward to the depths of his soul, Van turned his gaze towards sunnier climes, offering up ...
| | Van Morrison Into The Music CD (1979)
Astral Weeks music CDs
$6.89 After his '70s excursions into funk, soul and R&B, Morrison closed out the decade by getting back in touch with his Celtic roots, an idea he would eventually explore further on CELTIC HEARBEAT, with the Chieftains. On INTO THE MUSIC, Morrison keys in on the upbeat, celebratory aspects of traditional Irish music, incorporating them into his own tunes. Consequently, this is one of the most joyous-sounding Morrison records since HIS BAND & THE STREET CHOIR.
He had already begun his association with Mark Isham (a key player on Morrison's mellower '80s records) and former James Brown saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis, but Morrison is also assisted here by Ry Cooder (who contributes slide to the ...
| | Jimi Hendrix Are You Experienced? CD (1967)
Astral Weeks songs
$9.55 This 1997 reissue of ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? is a remastered version that restores the original LP's track order and album artwork. ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? was previously reissued in 1993 (MCA 10893) with new cover art and a new 17-track running order that included all the songs on either the U.S. or U.K. versions of the original LP. That version is now out of print, and has been replaced by this one, on the Experience Hendrix label, which features remastered versions of the same 17 songs, this time in the order they appeared on the original American LP, with the extra tracks added to the end (a separate version was simultaneously released in the U.K., featuring the same songs but in the original British track order). The Experience Hendrix label is controlled by Hendrix's family.
The 1997 reissue also adds a 24-page booklet with previously-unpublished ...
| | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Astral Weeks album
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and ...

Astral Weeks music CDs
$11.19 Little Brazil is headed by singer/songwriter Landon Hedges, part of the outer orbit of Saddle Creek Records artists who started his own band with 2005's You and Me, an uncomplicated catchy set of indie pop tunes not that far removed from the Minders/Apples in Stereo side of the old Elephant 6 collective. Little Brazil's second album is a darker affair, from its title and cartoon-suicide cover to the far less sweet-natured songs within. Perhaps to emphasize the fact that a formerly solo project ...
