Six and a half years later, Comes a Time finally was the Neil Young album for the millions of fans who had loved Harvest, an acoustic-based record with country overtones and romantic, autobiographical lyrics, and many of those fans returned to the fold, enough to make Comes a Time Young's first Top Ten album since Harvest. He signaled the album's direction with the leadoff track, "Goin' Back," and its retrospective theme augmented with an orchestral backup and the deliberate beat familiar from his number one hit "Heart of Gold." Of course, Young remained sly about this retrenchment. "I feel like goin' back," he sang, but added, "back where there's nowhere to stay." Doubtless he had no intention of staying with this style, but for the length of the album, melodies, love lyrics, lush arrangements, and steel guitar solos dominated, and Young's vocals were made more accessible by being paired with Nicolette Larson's harmonies. Larson's own version of Young's "Lotta Love," released shortly after the one heard here, became a Top Ten hit single. Other highlights included the reflective "Already One," which treats the unusual subject of the nature of a divorced family, the ironic "Field of Opportunity," and a cover of Ian Tyson's folk standard "Four Strong Winds" (a country Top Ten hit for Bobby Bare in 1965). ~ William Ruhlmann With steel guitars, fiddles and lots of acoustic guitars, this low-key folk-rock album harks back to Young's great AFTER THE GOLD RUSH-HARVEST period, and if it doesn't measure up that's only because of the ridiculously high standards the earlier albums set. Taken by itself, COMES A TIME is a fine collection, anchored by the timeless wonderment of the title song; a cover of Ian & Sylvia's "Four Strong Winds," and the nearly indescribable "Look Out For My Love," which is either a love song, a threat or both. COMES A TIME also features "Lotta Love," which was released simultaneously by Nicolette Larson and was a major hit for her. Larson doesn't sing on Young's version, but her background vocals distinguish much of the rest of COMES A TIME. Crazy Horse puts in an unusually low-key--but typically warm and ragged--appearance on two songs, "Look Out For My Love" and "Lotta Love."

Neil Young Comes A Time Songs Comes A Time Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) PRECIOSO. Este uno de los discos mas bonitos de este genial artista, la melancolia que desprende es una de la grandes virtudes de este obra. Una melancolia nunca empalagosa, sino estremecedora. Un disco que me acompañara siempre. Submitted by A.J.T.D (Gran Canaria) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

Neil's Tender Peak Many seem only to recognize Neil Young for his grungy rocking and bluesy melancholy as a lost young man or a startled poet amongst dopers, but Comes a Time shows Neil as a musician setting an example that we badly need. Kicks off with the tender Goin Back and goes right through the easy going and very personal maturity of Comes a Time, Peace of Mind and Already One, and culminates in the gloriously understated Ian Tyson cover Four Strong Winds, which assures us that, though Neil has grown up, he's still the wandering soul that we all love.
Songs like Field of Opportunity and Look out for My Love ease the listener into a safe, mature and confident place, and Lotta Love's vocal melodies add to the stream of licks that makes this album stick in your head for weeks on end. Neil Young & Crazy Horse: Neil Young (vocals, guitar, harmonica, piano, vibraphone); Danny Whitten (vocals, guitar); Ralph Molina (vocals, drums); Billy Talbot (bass). Additional personnel: Nils Lofgren (vocals, guitar, piano); Ben Keith (vocals, pedal steel guitar, slide guitar); Jack Nitzsche (piano); Tim Drummond (bass); Kenny Buttrey (drums). Producers: Neil Young, David Briggs, Tim Mulligan, Eliot Mazer. Written and recorded in 1973 shortly after the death of roadie Bruce Berry, Neil Young's second close associate to die of a heroin overdose in six months (the first was Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten), Tonight's the Night was Young's musical expression of grief, combined with his rejection of the stardom he had achieved in the late '60s and early '70s. The title track, performed twice, was a direct ...

Neil Young & Crazy Horse: Neil Young (vocals, various instruments); Billy Talbot (vocals, bass); Ralph Molina (vocals, drums); Frank Sampedro (guitar). Crosby, Stills & Nash: David Crosby (vocals); Steve Stills (vocals, bass); Graham Nash (vocals). Additional personnel: Tim Drummond (bass); Russ Kunkel (congas). Producers: Neil Young, David Briggs, Tim Mulligan. Having apparently exorcised his demons by releasing the cathartic Tonight's the Night, Neil Young returned to his commercial strengths with Zuma (named after Zuma Beach in Los Angeles, where he now owned a house). Seven of the album's nine songs were recorded with the reunited Crazy Horse, in which rhythm guitarist Frank Sampedro had replaced the late Danny Whitten, but there were also nods to other popular Young ...

Comes A Time
$9.15 Neil Young & Crazy Horse: Neil Young (guitar, vocals, keyboards, harmonica); Frank Sampedro (guitar, keyboards); Billy Talbot (bass); Ralph Molina (drums). Filmed at the Cow Palace, San Francisco, California. Rust Never Sleeps, its aphoristic title drawn from an intended advertising slogan, was an album of new songs, some of them recorded on Neil Young's 1978 concert tour. His strongest collection since Tonight's the Night, its obvious antecedent was Bob Dylan's Bringing It All Back Home, and, as Dylan did, Young divided his record into acoustic and electric sides while filling his songs with wildly imaginative imagery. The leadoff track, "My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)" (repeated in an electric version at album's end as "Hey Hey, My My [Into the Black]" with slightly altered lyrics), ...

Comes A Time
$15.95 This obscure power trio is thought to have come from Boston, where they supported the Velvet Underground in 1969, the same year their sole LP appeared. An inspired blend of tough electric blues (Leavin' Trunk , Antique Locomotives), commercial songs with distinctive hooks (What Of I?, Pourscha Poe) and more overtly acid-influenced material (David's Rush, Yellow Wall), it's an overlooked psychedelic gem that deserves far wider recognition.
Personnel: David Mello (guitar). Recording information: Associated Recording Studios (1969). Photographer: Stephen Schlaks. Wilkinson Tri-Cycle's only album is similar to post-psychedelic heavy rock recordings by East Coast groups like Sir Lord Baltimore and Yesterday's Children in that they combine bluesy heavy rock with psychedelic flourishes, but the effect is largely unremarkable. The album is nonetheless treasured by European collectors, who reportedly command a high price for the LP. Highlights include their cover of Sleepy John Estes' "Leaving Trunk," popularized at the time by Taj Mahal, and the Beatlesque ballads "Poursha Poe" and the elegant "Yellow ...
