On the heels of DIXIE CHICKEN, arguably Little Feat's finest moment, came this superb collection of country-fried grooves and good times. Even leaner and more energetic that DIXIE CHICKEN, FEATS DON'T FAIL ME NOW injects higher doses of rock & roll and country boogie into the group's rootsy aesthetic. Bandleader and lead songwriter Lowell George plays less of a determining role here, contributing two songs of his own (including the lushly funky "Spanish Moon," which features some killer horn charts) and co-writing four others (including the in-concert classic "Rock & Roll Doctor").
But while George takes a step back, the band sounds tighter, sharper, and better than ever. The dance-oriented direction is perfectly broached: in-the-pocket drumming, burbling bass, crying guitars, and wiry synths (note the delicious groove of "Skin It Back") merge beautifully with the band's dusty, back porch origins. Little Feat would stick to the easy country funk refined on this album for the rest of their career, and though the diminishing role of George would later hurt the band, FEATS DON'T FAIL ME NOW is one of the last recordings on which everything worked in perfect synchronicity.

Little Feat Feats Don't Fail Me Now Songs Feats Don't Fail Me Now Music Feats Don't Fail Me Now Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Southern fried funk-rock at its best First of all I just want to say that this album is my introduction to Little Feat, the only song I ever heard was 'Willin', which intrigued me enough to get an interest in this band. I was blown away from the first listen. This is all killer and no filler southern fried funk-rock and roll. Kind of like Lynyrd Skynyrd meets Sly and The Family Stone. These songs are tighter than a nuns you know what. I highly recommend this album. Submitted by mbordy69 (United States) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The Feats Didn't Fail Them This Time As my headline title implies, "Feats Don't Fail Me Now" finally broke the band into the Top 40, and is an excellent effort. Billy Payne's "Oh Atlanta" is the hit single that should have been, Paul Barrere was progressing finely as a songwriter, contributing the excellent funky "Skin It Back" as well as co-writing the title track, and Lowell George supplied two classics with "Rock and Roll Doctor" and "Spanish Moon". I, however, do believe that the group should have come up with maybe three more songs as the closing 10-minute medley of "Cold Cold Cold/Tripe Face Boogie" struck me as being filler, despite some fine keyboard/conga interplay during the crescendo. Finally, Feat had some well-deserved commercial success, although it also suggested George's soon-to-be diminishing influence as the band's work would soon slide into a pleasant jazz-rock feel. career pinnacle The Feat deserved induction to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, on the strength of this album alone, sadly an action still remiss to this day. While IMHO the earlier albums were around 8/10, this is at least a 9, Maybe a 10. While many site 'Oh Atlanta' as a favorite, how can you not admire the brilliance that is 'The Fan', 'Spanish Moon', or the Medley that ends the album. Where most early albums had usually one song that diminished the overall feel, (Dixie Chicken had 'Fool Yourself', or to a lesser extent ' Juliette'), This album has no weaker tracks or filler. Easily the best grooves of a career for a band that could groove like no other. If you must have just one 'Feat' album, let it be this one Submitted by michaelmcgee (Tasmania; Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

THE VERY BEST OF THE JAM brings together 21 favorites from seminal punk trio The Jam.
The Jam started out as a punk band and ended up as a soul band, one of the more eclectic and rewarding journeys found in the rock pantheon this side of The Clash. However, because certain elements remained constant--Paul Weller's stunning lyrics, the energetic rhythm section, the healthy, try-anything attitude--the quality never diminished, it only transformed. ...
