Commander Cody And His Lost Planet Airmen: Commander Cody (vocals, piano); Norton Buffalo (vocals, harmonica, trombone); Billy C. Farlow (vocals); Rick Higginbotham (acoustic & electric guitars); Bill Kirchen (guitar, trombone, background vocals); Bobby Black (pedal steel guitar); Andy Stein (fiddle, tenor saxophone); "Buffalo" Bruce Barlow (bass, background vocals); Lance Dickerson (drums, background vocals).
Recorded during a 1976 U.K. tour, WE'VE GOT A LIVE ONE shows that you don't have to be from the U.S. to appreciate the many forms of American roots music that are part of the Commander's sound. The enthusiastic English crowd eats up the group's unique blend of boogie-woogie, rockabilly, Western swing, and honky-tonk. By this time, the group had been together long enough to hone their arrangements to a fine point, but were still enjoying the last wave of their initial flush of success. Consequently, Cody and company are at their tightest here, but still full of energy and enthusiasm. Clocking in with 19 tracks, this is the longest of the band's many live albums, giving listeners a chance to experience the full breadth of the Commander's varied sound. The well-known tunes like "Hot Rod Lincoln" and "Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (That Cigarette)" brush shoulders with Bob Wills tunes ("San Antonio Rose," "My Window Faces the South") and classic rockabilly ("Milkcow Blues").
Recorded live in England.

Ultimate Enjoyment Whenever I decide to spin some old vinyl this is the first album I grab. One of my biggest regrets in life is not ever having gone to listen to the Commander live. If you happen to be from the great state of Texas, I think it's against the law if you don't own this music. Submitted by Hoppy (Hart,MI,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
We've got a HOT one here!!!!!!!!
Just picked this up recently on vinyl and on first listen, this is going to be one of my 'go to' albums for sure. The musicians are hitting on all 12 cylinders, and Commander Cody had fine tuned an amalgam of various musical styles into a unique blend that is genius. Other groups that are similar such as Asleep at the Wheel and Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks don't even hold a candle. Submitted by cameron (Murrieta, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Hot Rod Lincoln Best version ever heard. Submitted by Dave (Lawrenceville,GA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The Commander at his best! The one album not to miss if you're a fan of the Commander. Even the Brits loved him. Some great covers and great originals. The band and the vocals as tight and together as they ever were. Submitted by Mikey (New York, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
