On 1973's TRES HOMBRES, everything came together for ZZ Top. While it was near inconceivable that the trio could better its superb previous effort, 1972's RIO GRANDE MUD, here ZZ Top somehow found a way to make the riffs tastier and the blues boogie more lethal.
One of classic rock's most identifiable standards, "La Grange," resides here, borrowing liberally from John Lee Hooker. But there's even more great blues-rock to feast on--the moderately paced "Waitin' for the Bus," the 12-bar blues of "Jesus Just Left Chicago," and the party-hearty anthem "Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers" (a tune Van Halen has covered live from time to time). Elsewhere, the thick rocker "Precious and Grace" easily gives Led Zeppelin a run for its money.
Also available with FANDANGO on 1 cassette and as part of the ZZ Top 6 Pack.
ZZ Top: Billy Gibbons (vocals, guitar); Dusty Hill (vocals, bass); Frank "Rube" Beard (drums).
Rolling Stone (p.71) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he trio made raw-boned, matter-of-factly infectious songs out of a supercharged bar-band sound." Uncut (p.129) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "TRES HOMBRES was a breakthrough, courtesy of the John Lee Hooker-derived 'La Grange'." Mojo (Publisher) (p.119) - 5 stars out of 5 -- "[A] Tex-Mex combo platter of blues, soul and funky hard rock, spiced with a little Beefheart-inspired weirdness." ZZ Top Tres Hombres Songs Tres Hombres Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) The Best of The Best! What more can be added here? It is simply the best of the best. ZZ TOP Lays It Down with "Tres Hombres" In retrospect, this album is what ZZ TOP will always be: a supernatural blues delight. From blistering scorched-earth rampages such as "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers," the angelic epiphany "Hot, Blue and Righteous," and the tight-every-night "La Grange" (an homage to the boogie man himself, John Lee Hooker), this Texas trio surgically strikes at what most like-genre bands can only feign. This little ol' album is simply soul-quenching. Billy Gibbons' guitar work is not some chop-happy hacking; the Reverend Willy G. testifies! And supporting cast Dusty Hill (bass, vocals) and Frank Beard (tight-than-tight drums) prove to be the perfect canvas for Billy's creative tonal extravaganza. Even in this early period, ZZ TOP ventures the Congo to Cuba 3 decades before
"Dreadmonboogaloo" became art. So, if you're out cruisin' late one night, and you need a supernatural delight, give this deserved disc another spin... Give yourself a listen to the "Master of Sparks" on high... It'll be an experience you'll never forget.
Note: get the vinyl...

The sound here is REMIXED!!! Warner bros. and the band remixed this holly album maybe in 1978 or something, but, you can find the compleate original sound only in the old vinyl albums or just a few tracks of the album with the original sound in the CD" The best of ZZ TOP" 10 Legendary Texas Tales.-Alex. Their finest work ever The Top is at their best with "Blues" based set. I have owned 3 copies of this LP and now a friend wanted the tape to enjoy. Their work after "Tres Hombres" was more mainstream but this is I believe their finest work ever. Every track is just a pleasure to listen to time after time. It's like a little Texas "Cream"!!! Tres Hombres album
$5.99 While not their best-selling or most renowned album, ZZ Top's 1970 debut, ZZ TOP'S FIRST ALBUM, showed that the Texas trio had already nearly perfected their signature down n' dirty, blues-boogie-rock style. Like ZZ Top's other classic '70s albums, this one's an ass-kicker from beginning to end, especially on such standouts as the album-opening twang of "Shaking Your Tree," the vicious "Brown Sugar," the big rock of "Goin' Down to Mexico," and the fat blues groover "Bedroom Thang." Also of note is guitarist Billy Gibbons' supreme guitar tone and tasty playing; few other rock guitarists have sounded as confident on their ...

Tres Hombres CD music
$7.29 By its second release, 1972's RIO GRANDE MUD, ZZ Top was honing the tough blues rock hybrid that would make it a certified U.S. arena headliner by the mid-70's. While the album didn't spawn the big radio hits of its later releases such as "La Grange" and "Tush," RIO GRANDE MUD was another incredibly ...

While ZZ Top's early '70s studio albums were indeed great examples of the blues rock genre, the band's live shows were where the band really shined. On 1975's FANDANGO!, the trio issued an album that contained an 'in-concert' first side and a 'studio' ...
| | ZZ Top Tejas CD (1976)
Tres Hombres songs
$5.99 Drained by the tour, and unhappy with the support of their record label (London), they took a three-year break. They negotiated a switch to Warner Brothers, who put out their next album (DEGUELLO), and also bought their back catalog for re-issue.
After breaking through to the big time with its hit 1975 release FANDANGO! (and its Top 40 single "Tush"), ZZ Top returned to the studio and issued its fifth album, TEJAS, one year later. The album kept ZZ near the top of the charts, as it embarked on its massive "Worldwide Texas Tour" soon after the album's release (which included live animals as part of the stage's props!).
Musically, the album is somewhat more laid back than the band's previous more uptempo releases, as proven by such blues rockers as "It's ...
