(2 Customer Reviews)
Although it offers a retrospective of the years Lowell George spent with Little Feat, HOY-HOY is not a greatest hits package, nor is it a collection of leftovers a la Led Zeppelin's CODA. Rather, HOY-HOY inhabits a middle zone between the two, collecting a few early album tracks, then supplementing them with unreleased live tracks and demos.
Many familiar songs are represented here--albeit not always in their most familiar incarnations--and enough pleasant surprises are thrown in to make HOY-HOY a real treat for both fans of the band and lovers of classic '70s rock. Among tracks in the latter category are George's funkified remake of the Hank Williams classic "Lonesome Whistle," an early take on The Coasters' "Framed," and a great slow shuffle that was inexplicably left off George's solo album ("China White"). Of the live tracks, some bring something new to old favorites, while others simply remind listeners of what it was that made this band so special. Because of its haphazard focus, HOY-HOY isn't the first Little Feat album to get, but it is a record that belongs in the collection of any fan of the group.

Hoy-Hoy! album
$11.65 There was a time, back in its early days, when Little Feat was a country-rock band, perhaps THE quintessential country-rock band. While other contenders for this mantle leaned heavily in one direction or another, Little Feat truly mixed equal parts country twang and experimental rock. Each of the group's first three albums--LITTLE FEAT was their debut--point to how great country-rock might have become, if only (1) country rockers were as brilliant as Lowell George, and (2) fans had shown the slightest interest in the genre as Little Feat created it.
Fortunately, before the band moved onto the fusion-inspired funk with which ...

| | Duotang Cons & The Pros CD (1998)
Hoy-Hoy! songs
$13.49 Duotang's first album, 1996's Smash the Ships and Raise the Beams, was a fairly drab affair, as the duo's insistence on sticking to its two-piece, bass-and-drums-only formula made for a rumbling, monotonous listen -- the record sounded grumpy, which put it at odds with Duotang's penchant for punk-poppy songwriting and catchy melodies. They still haven't added a six-string guitar, but the judicious use of a horn section, a newfound emphasis on vocal harmonies, and the inclusion of Rod Slaughter's organ does wonders for Smash the Ships' follow-up, the bright, infectiously energetic The Cons & the Pros. Delegating the melodic and harmonic duties to the horns and the organ frees Slaughter's bass to explore propulsive rhythmic grooves, ...
