| | Van Morrison Beautiful Vision CD Van Morrison Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Morrison kicked off the '80s with a new musical direction, and BEAUTIFUL VISION marks that turning point. Though Van was a lifelong devotee of American roots music, he put his R&B influences on the backburner for a while, instead pursuing the more spiritual side of his muse, which had always been present, but never given this much room to roam since his very first release, ASTRAL WEEKS. An important element here is the synthesizer and trumpet work of Mark Isham, which provide spacious, ambient musical textures, upon which Van's spiritual insights float.
Detractors claim that this period in Morrison's artistic development (a process that continued unabated throughout his entire career), was too mellow, too new-agey. What they fail to grasp is the fact that Morrison was probably the only artist capable of utilizing the very elements they bemoan and not turning it into a goopy, pseudo-mystical mess. The man has a genuine gift for articulating the spiritual. A notable exception to this direction is the funky "Cleaning Windows," a light-hearted look back at one of Morrison's youthful occupations.

Beautiful Vision songs
$8.39 Picking up where BEAUTIFUL VISION left off, this album is full of the Celtic mysticism, spiritual themes and atmospheric arrangements that characterized most of Morrison's '80s output. Again, Mark Isham is on hand to lend his support on synthesizer and trumpet for that delicate, almost-not-quite new agey touch. Van waxes philosophical, as is his wont, on such tunes as "River of Time," "Higher Than The World" and the title tune, and nobody ventures into the mystic with more success than Morrison. Held aloft by a female choir, Morrison's voice takes on a new air of maturity here. As his blues-trained ...
| | Van Morrison Into The Music CD (1979)
Beautiful Vision album
$6.89 After his '70s excursions into funk, soul and R&B, Morrison closed out the decade by getting back in touch with his Celtic roots, an idea he would eventually explore further on CELTIC HEARBEAT, with the Chieftains. On INTO THE MUSIC, Morrison keys in on the upbeat, celebratory aspects of traditional Irish music, incorporating them into his own tunes. Consequently, this is one of the most joyous-sounding Morrison records since HIS BAND & THE STREET CHOIR.
He had already begun his association with Mark Isham (a key player on Morrison's mellower '80s records) and former James Brown saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis, but Morrison is also assisted here by Ry Cooder (who contributes slide to the aptly named "Full Force Gale") and Robin Williamson of the Incredible String Band, who enhances the aura of Celtic mysticism with his pennywhistle work. This is not to say that INTO THE MUSIC is some Celtic trad workout, just that the folk element is mixed in along with Morrison's usual grab bag of rock, pop, blues and undeniable soul.
One of Morrison's best loved ...
| | Derek Bailey Harras CD (1996) (Import) Import; Japan
Beautiful Vision CD music
$56.35 John Zorn's squawking, post-bop invective brings out Derek Bailey's rowdier side in this popular Knitting Factory date from 1995. "Morning Harras" begins with a reflective prelude, its solemnity underscored by the Mingus-like gravity of Parker's double bass and by Bailey's plangent plucks and stabs. Once Zorn's blowing picks up to full gale-force strength, Bailey seems to be all but mashing his way across the fretboard in response to the saxophonist's hyperbolically articulated lines. "Morning" has broken, and HARRAS rarely lets up from there.
"Noon Harras" builds from a soft bustle of trio activity ...
| | Deliver Us From Eva CD (2002) Original Soundtrack
Beautiful Vision music CDs
$12.65 Ostensibly a hip-hop-related soundtrack for the film starring rap icon LL Cool J, DELIVER US FROM EVA also serves as an excellent sampling of a breed of contemporary slow-jam R&B that's heavily influenced by vintage soul and '70s Quiet Storm. This sound is, of course, highly appropriate for an urban romantic comedy, but the album is great mood music independent of the movie. In fact, DELIVER US FROM EVA is packed with enough sultry beats and slinky bass ...
| | Gilberto Santa Rosa Directo Al Corazon CD (2006)
Beautiful Vision songs
$9.55 Puerto Rican singer Gilberto Santa Rosa has enjoyed massive success throughout Latin America and beyond for his particular brand of salsa. Santa Rosa is also a master ballad stylist, an area that gets plenty of attention on 2006's DIRECTO AL CORAZON. There are a few key uptempo tracks here, but those looking for a sustained batch of high-energy salsa may be disappointed. Nevertheless, Santa Rosa's rich, expressive voice is in fine form throughout this 10-song set.

| | Ransom Tullis And The Luxury Liners CD (2005)
Beautiful Vision album
$15.19 Well hell yea. It's about time that we get some guys back on the scene in Austin that were there "in the day". What does it sound like? Texas Outlaw Country, Lukenbach-style, with an eye toward early-seventies "original" alternative-country from bands like Poco, Pure Prarie League and Gram Parsons.Leading the band is Ransom Tullis (a.k.a. Gregg Yows). Taking his stage name from his great, great ...
