(3 Customer Reviews)
Recorded live in summer 1993 and summer 1994. Includes liner notes by Walter Becker.
Ever since Donald Fagan and Walter Becker stopped recording together as Steely Dan in the early '80s, their legions of fans have clamored for a reunion. Their dreams were answered in 1993 when Steely Dan reunited for an extensive American tour. Though Steely Dan was best known for its studio alchemy rather than its in-concert prowess, ALIVE IN AMERICA is a surprisingly good live album.
Featuring inspired versions of Steely Dan staples like "Bodhisattva," "Josie" and "Peg" and a showstopping performance of "Reelin' In The Years," ALIVE IN AMERICA is essentially a live greatest hits collection. Not content to simply recreate the cool-jazz pop sound of the original recordings, the new Steely Dan lineup infuses these familiar songs with a refreshing dose of energy and enthusiasm that brings out the edge in the sly lyrics and complex musical structures. Though these fine live versions add little to the Steely Dan legend, it's great to hear Fagen and Becker performing together again and ALIVE IN AMERICA suggests that the two will create some wonderful music should they ever decide to reunite for a new studio album.

Steely Dan Alive In America Songs Alive In America Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Great collection of live tracks, they've gotten better since This was my favorite CD for a long time, especially since I had never seen Steely Dan in concert. In 2000, however, I finally saw them (and again in 2003, and again in 2006). I must say, they are much tighter now. The horns sound better, back up singers are much better, as is the guitar work. I hope they come out w/ another live album so everyone can hear just how incredible they sound now! Submitted by Colin (Tacoma, WA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Oh yeah.......... I have been a Steely Dan fan for 20+ years. I picked up this live album a year ago and its the awesome. As the other reviewer states, get a decent surround system, turn off the lights and fire one up. Excellent Steely Dan. Submitted by Richard (Cedar Park, Texas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
If you couldnt afford the tickets... This album came as a surprise to me thru' a friend -during the reconstruction of my CD collection after a burglary. I had ordered all the usual replacements Scam,Thrill, Aja
etc.thru my local dealer and his catalogues did not show this CD - as its not on their usual labels.
Grab a good Hi-fi system ,turn out the lights take a seat,'spark-one-up' and you've the cheapest Live 'Dan' seats in town. This album is phenomenal
and a must for all afficionados. Dont think this is the live version of the studio sounds, its not, there are plenty of twists, variations and excellent 'reviewing' of riffs and familiar jazz passages. 'Reeling in the Years' may actually be better than the original!!!. Its sharp, its crisp....its essential. Submitted by bailey-douglas (Middlesbrough.UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Steely Dan Can't Buy A Thrill CD (1972) Remastered
Alive In America CD music
$6.49 This is the album that introduced Donald Fagen and Walter Becker's unique, idiosyncratic, and highly polished craftsmanship. Although CAN'T BUY A THRILL lacks the overtly jazzy tendencies that would define albums like AJA, it distinguishes itself from nearly all of the mainstream pop and rock of the era with its smooth, lounge-y feel, catchy hooks, and immaculate studio polish. They were played alongside the Doobie ...
| | Steely Dan Countdown To Ecstasy CD (1973) Remastered
Alive In America music CDs
$6.49 Riding high on the success of their debut CAN'T BUY A THRILL, Steely Dan put together what was, on the surface, their most commercial and straightforward album. "Bodhisattva," for example, which opens the album, works a driving, jump-blues groove that seems at odds with the band's laid-back, jazz inclinations. The heavy, bluesy stomp of "The Boston Rag" and the slinky, edgy boogie of "Show ...
| | Steely Dan Pretzel Logic CD (1974) Remastered
Alive In America songs
$6.49 Steely Dan holds the title as one of the most quietly subversive pop bands of the 20th century. They managed--on their first two albums and, especially, on PRETZEL LOGIC--to combine breezy, ear-pleasing accessibility with an immensely sophisticated sensibility that upended most pop conventions. On PRETZEL ...

Alive In America album
$8.99 Recorded between 1966 & 1969. Includes liner notes by Jon Mills.
This is part of Castle Music Records "The Psych Pop Sessions" series.
This is one delightfully strange, even revelatory compilation CD, a cross-section of the Tremeloes' music devoted exclusively neither to hits nor to rarities -- rather, the producers have culled the strangest, most uncharacteristic sides by the band from four years of sessions, with the emphasis on psychedelic sounds, ranging from the Beatlesque psychedelic pop of "Willow Tree" to the dissonant, feedback-laced, volume-pedal, and fuzz box-soaked "Hard Time" (which by itself will be worth the price ...
