Original score composed by Princce & The Revolution.
Engineers include: Susan Rogers, Peggy Mac, Coke Johnson.
Principally recorded at Paisley Park Studios, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Undaunted by the criticism Around the World in a Day received, Prince continued to pursue his psychedelic inclinations on Parade, which also functioned as the soundtrack to his second film, Under the Cherry Moon. Originally conceived as a double album, Parade has the sprawling feel of a double record, even if it clocks in around 45 minutes. Prince & the Revolution shift musical moods and textures from song to song -- witness how the fluttering psychedelia of "Christopher Tracy's Parade" gives way to the spare, jazzy funk of "New Position," which morphs into the druggy "I Wonder U" -- and they're determined not to play it safe, even on the hard funk of "Girls and Boys" and "Mountains," as well as the stunning "Kiss," which hits hard with just a dry guitar, keyboard, drum machine, and layered vocals. All of the group's musical adventures, even the cabaret-pop of "Venus de Milo" and "Do U Lie?" do nothing to undercut the melodicism of the record, and the amount of ground they cover in 12 songs is truly remarkable. Even with all of its attributes, Parade is a little off-balance, stopping too quickly to give the haunting closer, "Sometimes It Snows in April," the resonance it needs. For some tastes, it may also be a bit too lyrically cryptic, but Prince's weird religious and sexual metaphors develop into a motif that actually gives the album weight. If it had been expanded to a double album, Parade would have equaled the subsequent Sign 'o' the Times, but as it stands, it's an astonishingly rewarding near-miss. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Another soundtrack that fared more favourably than the movie, 'Under The Cherry Moon', from which it came, this was also the record that marked Prince's return to the live arena. The record itself came with a high camp video and guaranteed hit in the shape of 'Kiss' (which a collaboration of Tom Jones and the Art Of Noise would later cover), a delightfully funky little number around which the world threatened to dance. Elsewhere, both 'Girls And Boys' and 'Anotherloverholenyohead' charted. While the lifting strains of 'Sometimes It Snows In April' rounded off a wonderfully whole album, nothing could quite save the film.Q - 3 Stars - Good

4 stars a lot of good music in here...
"Parade" is probably the most "band-produced" album from the Revolution period. From listening to later output from both Prince and Wendy & Lisa (sometimes with Bobby Z.) it becomes clear that this album owes as much to the members of the band as it does to Prince himself. And this is no bad thing! The music boasts a kind of subtlety and playfulness that marks the best of the Revolution output. I'd definitely put this alongside "Sign O' The Times" and "Purplr Rain" in the top 80s Prince albums. Also worth checking out is Wendy & Lisa's "Eroica".

5 stars Such Music is More Than Just the Late 80's
This is a Prince Master Piece that it under rated and one of his "best of's" most ignored. I haven't heard it since I've last seen it in 1987.

4 stars Brings back fond memories!
Although this album never did much on the charts, the memories it brings with it are priceless. Both "Mountains" and "Anotherloverholenyohead" were being played on the great R & B stations in New York "back in the day" in the summer of '86 when times were simpler and it was a big experience to take a girl and some of your best friends out on the town for a cruise or just to hang out. "Kiss" needs no hype, it's a classic to this day. "Girls and Boys" is one song we used to crank up nice and loud in the car. The rest of the album is just so-so, like any other Prince album.
