Personnel: Prince (vocals, various instruments); Cat (vocals); Miko (guitars, background vocals); Eric Leeds, Atlanta Bliss (brass, background vocals); Boni Boyer (keyboards, background vocals); Dr. Fink (keyboards); Levi Seacer, Jr. (bass, background vocals); Sheila E. (drums, percussion, background vocals). It's nearly impossible to judge Lovesexy as anything but a hastily assembled substitute for the withdrawn Black Album, which does the record a disservice. An exactingly sequenced song cycle -- the compact disc didn't have index markings to separate the individual tracks -- Lovesexy is quite a different record than not only The Black Album, but anything else Prince had recorded. Where Dirty Mind was single-minded in its lust, Lovesexy connects the carnal with spiritual, and the calmness of the music reflects this outlook. Even when the record dips into hard funk, such as on the title track or the single "Alphabet Street," there's a relaxed, casual quality to the music that is shocking after the dense paranoia of Parade, Sign 'o' the Times, and The Black Album. Prince intends to enter a new phase of maturity with such considered music and ambitious lyrical themes, but neither his music nor his lyrics are consistently well stated over the course of the album. A handful of tracks are worthwhile -- the sappy ballad "When 2 R in Love," the moving "I Wish U Heaven," the weird psychedelia of "Anna Stesia" and "Glam Slam," as well as the wonderful "Alphabet Street" -- but Lovesexy is his weakest album since Controversy. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine With powerhouse drummer Sheila E. and synthesizer wizard Dr. Fink still remaining from Prince's classic mid-to-late-'80s band, LOVESEXY is an all-out funk assault, aimed squarely at the dancefloor. The elaborate, genre-crossing arrangements of PURPLE RAIN give way to an irresistibly propulsive dance-funk-rock aesthetic. Basic, primal rhythms, gritty sax and chattering, funky rhythm guitar help drive the long, foot-moving tunes. As usual, the lyrics tend toward the carnal, and as dance-oriented an album as LOVESEXY, that lascivious sensibility just helps to push the whole thing along. The romantic ballad "When 2 R In Love" provides an effective change of pace, but don't expect to sit down for long once LOVESEXY gets underway.

Lovesexy Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Completed Collection This cd is a must have for any die hard Prince fan. Not many artist can give you a recorded cd that sounds like a live concert. Prince dug deep into his "purple haze" to compose the songs on this cd. I must agree with you it is very strange to this such a great LP without enough fans rewiew but the picture harm the great value of the LP . last day I told my other prince fan at Ivory coast that it is was made before its time the core this LP will fit into the 1995 era not 88 and most of die hard fan are not young like before ! most of Prince are over 30 years ! I am 33 years I am not into 2PAC era ! Submitted by Ivory Coast , ABI,RCI (avinetsarl@yahoo.com) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Why is there no fan review of this album? This is the first Prince album I ever bought, when it was released in 1988. I always was and still am in awe of it. Ok, I know it doesn't quite match up to Sign o' The Times, but what album could have ever followed up the magnificence of that masterpiece? There are some great gems on this CD, Alphabet St IS a classic, Anna Stesia is wonderfully mysterious to listen to and Dance On is is just pure Prince jamming at it's best. A truly understated album by the best artist of our time. Submitted by Karl, (Bath, United Kingdom) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Lovesexy
$6.75 Personnel: Janet Jackson (vocals, keyboards, bells, background vocals); Jellybean Johnson (vocals, guitar); Jimmy Jam (vocals, piano, synthesizer, drums, percussion, background vocals); Terry Lewis (vocals, percussion, background vocals); Jerome Benton (vocals); Monte Moir (guitar, synthesizer, drums); Spencer Bernard (guitar, synthesizer); Geoff Bouchieiz (guitar); Nicholas Raths (acoustic guitar, 12-string guitar); Troy Anthony (saxophone); Mark Cardenas (synthesizer); Roger Dumas (drums, programming); Hami Wave, Gwendolyn Traylor, Lisa Keith, Melanie Andrews (background vocals). Recording information: Flyte Time Productions Studio, Minneapolis, MN. Unknown Contributor Role: Janet Jackson. Janet Jackson's Control: The Remixes includes remixes of all six hits from her 1986 album Control. The album opens with the "live" video version of the title track, followed by a dance remix of the album's only number one stateside single, "When I Think of You." The dance mix is almost identical to the video version, which is a beefed-up remix of the album version and was unavailable as a single. Unfortunately, there are so many "breaks" toward the end of the dance mix that the song's flow is completely disrupted. One wishes they would have simply left the video version intact and included it in its entirety for this album. An extended mix of the first single, "What Have You Done for Me Lately," is included, as is the single remix of "Let's Wait Awhile," which has quite a bit more muscle than the original album version, and that single mix was, thankfully, left intact. Two extended remixes of "Nasty" are included, as are two remixes of "The Pleasure Principle," which was also ...

$13.19 K0lbum. Most of the lyrics on this album were not written. SPM shouts out lyrics right off the top of his head. A form of artistic rapping that first became popular by artist like Yungstar, Lil Flip and other members of the Screwed Up Click (S.U.C.). Fans seemed to like this form of rapping because it gives them a chance to hear exactly what is on the artist mind at that very second. Many of the instrumentals on this album were produced by SPM. Hot tracks include Screwed Up Tape, Red Beans And Rice, and I Need A ...

$7.19 Anastasia wears quite a few hats, like the songwriter's hat has a few feathers, and the singer's hat is just red, the teacher hat is a burette type, environmentalist hat is made of recycled paper and many more. She is never bored of the varied life she is living. Her biggest dream of all is to succeed in the music business, to write great songs that people will say: "I discovered an amazing song yesterday, listen to this" about, sell an outrageous number of CD's, so people in the music business will drop her name all over saying: "That Anastasia girl topped all indie sales, and she did it all by herself!" and leave people many memory songs. "I'd love for people to listen to one of my songs and say "This was our wedding song", or "This is my summer of '99 song", if that ever happens, that'll be a dream come true" says Anastasia about her fantasy of success. When Anastasia came from Russia in September of 1998, her life changed dramatically. Leaving life long friends at 12 years of age was heartbreaking, at the same time teaching Anastasia a great lesson about friendships, and gifting her with one of her newest songs called "Living in the Memory":"There's one thing that we've realized. It's never like it used to be,Tears run down the face,But it's never like the good old days.""This song is about understanding the reality of time, and that although I always imagine going back and reconciling with my friends, it won't be as I see it in my mind – it won't be a dream like I imagine it to be."Anastasia started writing songs in grade 8 – ultimately bored in history class; ideas started developing themselves into poems, which later became songs. "I had no idea how to put music to songs, although I knew how to play classical piano, which is reading sheet music, and not improvisational at all. I found out about a songwriting contest with a very close deadline, so under pressure I sat at my piano and came up with some music which weren't even chords, but just notes that sounded good together, sang the words that I've written to it, and I was on my way!" Now Anastasia's songs have developed to have very fascinating chord changes and mostly love themed lyrics.Everything worked out for Anastasia positively so far, fitting like a puzzle – learning piano which became a part of Anastasia's adventure, boredom in class leading to songwriting, vocal discovery after coming to Canada and Anastasia is still not finished discovering all the musical avenues she is going to live through (orchestration, film scoring, music production and much more.)After coming from Russia in 1998, Anastasia kept ...
