Out-of-print in the US.! Third album from the Norwegian Pop trio, originally released in 1988. By this time, the band were moving away from the pure Synth Pop of past hits and creating a mature, atmospheric sound with more warmth and emotion. Features the hits 'Touchy', 'The Blood That Moves The Body' and a re-recording of their James Bond theme 'The Living Daylights' (the original single version is available on the Headlines & Deadlines collection). Warner.
A-ha: Morten Harket (vocals), Pal Waaktaar (guitar), Magne Furuholmen (keyboards). Though A-Ha disappeared from the radar of most Americans after its massive 1985 MTV video hit "Take on Me," the Norwegian pop act continued to record new material throughout the '80s and into the early '90s, retaining a loyal European following. Released in '88, STAY ON THESE ROADS finds the effortlessly marketable trio offering up more synth-driven pop tunes, most notably the emotive title track and "The Blood That Moves the Body," a pulsing dance-oriented number. ROADS also features a reworking of A-Ha's theme from the James Bond film THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS, a version that hews closer to the group's signature keyboard-heavy sound. While STAY ON THESE ROADS is eclipsed by A-Ha's debut, HUNTING HIGH AND LOW, it is a worthy second stop for those delving further into the Scandinavian ensemble's oft-overlooked catalogue. a-ha's recording career hit the skids in America with its third release. But in the U.K., the album became the group's third straight to peak at number two, though it charted for a shorter period than the first two albums, and there were four Top 25 hits -- the title track, "The Blood That Moves the Body," "Touchy!," and "You Are the One." (Also included was a-ha's 1987 theme from the James Bond movie The Living Daylights, a U.K. number five that missed the U.S. charts.) Even in a country with a demonstrated affection for Scandinavians, however (remember ABBA?), that was a fall-off, if the decline was more gradual, and three albums in, a-ha wasn't demonstrating any development from its first hit, just more of the same and a little less distinctive. ~ William Ruhlmann

Their weakest CD in their impressive catalog When I bought this album when it first came out, I had high expectations. I was disappointed to the point of being offended. To me, the only two tracks that really was comparable to their previous material was the title track "Stay on These Roads" and a polished/finalized version of the James Bond movie theme "The Living Daylights." The rest, at first listen, sounded like album fillers; very mediocre, very forgettable. Of course, the local radio stations where lived at the time smoothed out my bitter reaction to the rest of the album as it relentlesly rammed down my ears the songs "You are the One," and "Touchy!" That campaign, I must say, was somewhat succesful as I became receptive to the rest of the album. In the end, I found two other tracks that were likable. It boggled my mind how a good number of people regarded this disc as the best of their early work. Was I missing something? Hey, I'm a fan of the group too, but I'm not going to kiss their butts and agree that this is the best of their early works. However, I did notice that they, like many other groups of the deacade, were gradually shifting their sound from the synth-driven music of the era to a conventional sound/instrumentation of pop/rock bands. Buy it to complete your A-ha catalog. Submitted by Robert (Waialua, HI) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$12.69 Les epitomizes the musical artist triple threat: he is vocally gifted, he writes memorable songs and he puts on an enthralling live show. He has only just begun to discover where these talents will take him.Les (Lester Hussie) was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up listening to the sounds of Jay-Z, Biggie Smalls and Philly Mo-Town. Les’ musical training began at age four with classical piano. He performed in numerous talent shows and with school and church choirs, figuring out early that music was his passion. At age eleven, Les added voice lessons to his training. Soon after, dance lessons were also incorporated. Throughout middle ...
