GREATEST HITS contains tracks released between 1975 and 1988. Fleetwood Mac includes: Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, Linsday Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Billy Burnette. Personnel: Peter Green (vocals, guitar); Mick Fleetwood (drums). Audio Mixer: Greg Ladanyi. Liner Note Author: Stephen Allen Davis. Recording information: Complex. Greatest Hits is a fine overview of Fleetwood Mac's hit-making years, containing the bulk of the group's Top 40 hits of the late '70s and '80s, including "Over My Head," "Rhiannon," "Say You Love Me," "Go Your Own Way," "Dreams," "Don't Stop," "Tusk," "Sara," "Hold Me," "Gypsy," and "Little Lies." Minor hits like "Think About Me," "Love in Store," and "Seven Wonders" are missing, making room for the new songs "As Long as You Follow" (which actually became a hit) and "No Questions Asked," but overall, Greatest Hits is an excellent choice for casual listeners. [WEA released a version of Greatest Hits in 2006 that included the bonus track "Oh Diane".) ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine This 16-song collection includes a number of chart-topping Fleetwood Mac releases, most of them selected from their remarkable, decade-plus long run of hits spanning the mid 1970s through the 1980s. GREATEST HITS includes songs such as the Stevie Nicks classics "Rhiannon," "Dreams," and "Gypsy," as well as a number of standout tracks by pianist Christine McVie, including "Over My Head" and "Say You Love Me." Additionally, guitarist and songwriter Lindsey Buckingham, who, like Nicks, enjoyed a solo career in addition to putting in time with Fleetwood Mac, is also represented here with excellent songs, including "Go Your Own Way" and "Tusk." GREATEST HITS is an excellent primer for anyone unfamiliar with one of the most successful pop bands of a generation. Bonus tracks on this release include a long version of the Stevie Nicks hit, "Sara."

| | Best Of The Moody Blues CD (1997)
Greatest Hits
$10.45 THE BEST OF THE MOODY BLUES contains vintage photographs and a conversation with Justin Hayward. Producers include: Tony Clarke, 10cc, Jeff Wayne, Pip Williams, Tony Visconti. Compilation producer: Dorian Wathen. Engineers include: Tony Visconti. Recorded between 1964 and 1988. Includes liner notes by John Reed. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Audio Mixer: Tony Visconti. Liner Note Author: John Reed. This single-CD compilation doesn't do too much more than scratch the surface of the band's sound at its most popular points, but it does do one thing that no prior Moody Blues compilation ever did -- it includes "Go Now," which, as the notes point out, is still the group's top-charting single in England. What it doesn't do is get "Go Now" in really good sound (no one seems to have a proper master source) or include their even better follow-up single, "From the Bottom of My Heart." Still, this body ...

| | Gipsy Kings Mosaique CD (1989)
Greatest Hits
$14.79 Live Recording
Gipsy Kings: Nicolas Reyes, Andre Reyes (vocals, guitar); Tonino Baliardo, Chico Bouchikhi, Diego Baliardo, Paco Baliardo (guitar). Additional personnel: Philippe Desserpris (electric guitar); Guillermo Fellove (trumpet); Claude Maisonneuve (oboe); Dominique Droin (piano, synthesizer); Dominique Perrier (piano); Jean Musy (synthesizer); Gerard Prevost (bass); Negrito Trasante-Crocco (drums, percussion); Claude Salmieri (drums); Charles Benarroch (percussion). Engineers: Daniel Michel, Francois Delabriere, Roland Guillotel. Recorded at Studio EMI-Pathe Marconi, Paris, France in March, June, July and September 1989, except "Vamos A Bailar" recorded live in July 1989. The second major album for the Gipsy Kings on Elektra, Mosaique makes use of a mild range of outside genres and instrumentation that are added slyly to the basic flamenco mix set up by the ensemble. Most notably, modern drum kits and synthesizers make their presence thoroughly known throughout the course of the album. Some rai fusion slips into "Viento del Arena" in a sideways manner, becoming the focus of the sound in turn with the backdrop for the more traditional guitar work. The title track introduces some jazzy guitar riffs mixed in with the proper flamenco palmas to form an exquisite rhythmic structure. The live "Vamos a Bailar" incorporates a Cuban flavor, and the first appearance of the outstanding "Volaré" cover here mixes a tiny bit of Italian song into a huge amount of flamenco power. The rest of the tracks largely follow a more standard set of the Kings' brand of flamenco, which is more than formidable on its own. The star of all the tracks, regardless of style, is the duo of Tonino Baliardo on guitar (often outdoing even his own outstanding father Manitas de Plata in his abilities) and Nicolás Reyes on lead vocals. It's Reyes ...

| | Ammon Contact With Voices CD (2006) (Import) Germany
Greatest Hits
$14.29 Prominent members in the West Coast production scene, Ammoncontact continue their trend of strong releases on With Voices. The first of their records to include a guest (be it vocalist or musician) on every song, the 16 tracks on With Voices do a good job of showing off not only the talents of the other artists but also of Carlos Niño and Fabian Ammon Alston and their ability to adapt to other people's styles. They -- either collectively or separately -- create heavier beats that work well with the rougher deliveries of MCs like Sach and Lil Sci, but then focus more on basslines and melodic breaks for the spoken word pieces, including "Beautiful Flowers," which features lyrics from Prince Po and Yusef Lateef and, despite its reliance on electronic instrumentation, has a very organic quality about it. Perhaps that's the most interesting thing about Ammoncontact: their ability to give breath ...
