Featuring the impossibly catchy hit, "Countdown," Lindsey Buckingham's third solo release, 1992's OUT OF THE CRADLE, includes 14 songs, along with two short, but notable, guitar instrumentals. Buckingham is often lauded as a writer of tart pop confection, but OUT OF THE CRADLE also showcases his excellent guitar playing, which has only improved over the years. Like his other solo recordings, Buckingham's tastes and influences are vast and eccentric.
OUT OF THE CRADLE features lush, dreamy ballads that recall early 1960s Southern California ballads on songs such as "All My Sorrows" and "Say We'll Meet Again," and dabblings in jazz atmospherics on "Street of Dreams." But Buckingham's keenest moments on OUT OF THE CRADLE are in his well-documented oeuvre of chiming pop. The songs "Countdown," "Don't Look Down," and "Turn it On" stand out as some of the best, most melodic pop music to come forth from Fleetwood Mac and company's numerous releases.
Personnel: Lindsey Buckingham (vocals, various instruments); Mitchell Froom (organ); Larry Klein, Buell Neidlinger (bass); Alen Acuna (percussion).
Engineers include: Richard Dashut, Kevin Killen, Greg Droman.

Village Voice (3/2/93, p.5) - Ranked #33 in the Village Voice's list of the 40 Best Albums Of 1992. Audio Magazine (9/92, p.107) - "...A purring pop machine...the millions who bought RUMOURS should storm the stores for this invention of art and craft..." Sure Bet If you are a fan of Fleetwood Mac, then you will definatly reconize the influence Lindsey had on the group's sound on "Out of the Cradle." Jarring guitar riffs and slow ballads with a mixture of just pure talent makes this a most enjoyable album. This is a CD that will sit on your platter for a long, long time. If you love Fleetwood Mac, this is a must to add to your collection! Submitted by Jim (New Mexico) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Stunning songs and musicianship Lindsey's third solo album is his best yet. His songs cover a wide range of styles, from guitar heavy rock workouts to string laden ballads. Countdown has one of the most explosive yet tuneful guitar solos I have ever heard. His style of playing, with the finger picking, is unique. It is expressive without being too showy. All of the songs have hooks which stick and hold, without ever being quite as glossy as some of the pop sounds of Fleetwood Mac. The rock numbers hit almost as hard as some of his rockabilly style songs from Tusk, which is still I think very underrated. Other standout tracks are Surrender the Rain and Turn It On. The only drawback is that once you do get a solo album from Lindsey, you may have to wait 10 years for another. I hope he is working on his next one. By 1993, when Bryan Adams released his first collection of greatest hits, he had enjoyed 12 years in the music business during a span that had seen hot trends like new wave and late '80s hair metal fall by the wayside. | | Michael Musillami Beijing CD (2003)
Out Of The Cradle music CDs
$18.95 Guitarist Michael Musillami runs Massachusetts-based modern jazz label Playscape Recordings. But more importantly, the artist possesses an idiosyncratic style, due in part to his picking techniques and his warmly executed tonalities and both of which he aptly employs on his new album, Beijing.
The album title actually refers to the 1989 pro-democracy protests in Beijing, where Musillami derives inspiration, although this effort is firmly rooted within the jazz idiom. With this release, the guitarist leads his trio through a production awash with a sense of intimacy via the artists' close-knit musicianship. They mix it up rather nicely on many of these tracks. As they venture into a few free-form escapades to complement off-kilter blues-based interludes and traditional swing formats. Musillami's artisanship includes a rhythmic and subtly driving methodology, augmented by rapidly executed single note flurries. Moreover, bassist Joe Fonda and drummer George Schuller play equally important roles here. Everyone participates, whether it's Schuller's sizzling rim-shots -- emulating a Chinese percussion instrument -- or Fonda's swerving, rock-solid lines. At times, the band simply caresses a tune while also pursuing knotty time signatures and soft balladry. Therefore, you can generally count on Musillami to offer the willing listener something a bit different than the tried and true. This one works, in a quietly prolific sort of way. ~ Glenn Astarita
