Neil Young and Crazy Horse came roaring into the 1990s astride a powerful beast named RAGGED GLORY. During this time, Young was being heralded as the "Godfather of Grunge," and this album went a long way towards reinforcing this moniker. Never before had heavy guitar crunch swung in such a melodic and forceful way.
With the slightest hint of a twang and some relaxed harmonizing, "Country Home" chugs confidently along, in contrast to the slash-and-burn explosiveness of "F*#in' Up." Subtle country flourishes abound on this record, whether it's Young borrowing the title to the psychedelic hideaway "Mansion on the Hill" from a Hank Williams song, or "White Line" giving an idea of what Williams might sound like if he had a stack of Marshalls. Having developed a solid chemistry from playing together for almost 20 years, Young and Crazy Horse's penchant for extended jams is reflected on the opuses "Love to Burn" and "Love and Only Love," both of which rank alongside such other tours de force as "Cowgirl in the Sand." This muscular 10-song set ends with "Mother Earth (Natural Anthem)," an environmental tribute that is essentially a choral soundscape recorded live at the Hoosier Dome.

Neil Young Ragged Glory Songs Ragged Glory Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) The standard for them all. Neil rewrote the rules and the sound for rock and roll on this album. He took it out of the studio and put it back where it always belonged...in the "Garage"... None of that overdubbed to hell studio crap shoved down our throats for so long. Simply, the greatest rock album ever recorded. Submitted by jbbhcpa (Huntington Beach, Ca.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

One of Neil's alsolute best! This album is far and away one of the best Neil has done with Crazy Horse. The songs are GREAT and the band is "tight" in its usual 'loose-sounding' way. I love this album! The extended jams are some of Neil's best, the shorter songs just leave you wanting them to keep on going, and the live recording that closes the album is truly RAGGED GLORY! This is a 'must-have' Neil Young album. Submitted by a reviewer (Western U.S.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
My favorite rock 'n roll album So many of Neil Young's CD's are great, put what is so special about this one is that the song selection, and the guitar work is just out of this world! This is my favorite hard rock album of all time! A must for any Neil Young fan, or even a fan of some good guitar playing. You will just love (like I do) the end to most of these songs. The way Neil Young can stretch a song out without going overboard. This just sends chills down my spine! If I could give this cd six stars, I would! | | Kid Ramos West Coast House Party CD (2000)
Ragged Glory
$13.19 The third release from The Fabulous Thunderbirds' muscular lead guitarist is less a solo album than a forum for the obviously well-connected Kid Ramos to host a congregation of some of the country's best swing-influenced talent as they blow through an hour of prime West Coast jump blues. Between the ever-present horns and a long list of lead vocalists, including Lynwood Slim, Duke Robillard, Big Sandy, the Thunderbirds' Kim Wilson, and ex-employer James Harman, trading off the spotlight, it's tough for Ramos to assert himself as a guitarist with a distinctive sound amongst the excitement of all the guest appearances. Interestingly, the star also invites like-minded guitarists such as Little Charlie Baty, Rusty Zinn, and one of the genre's founding fathers, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown to his party, further diluting the effect of his own contributions. That minor ...
