| | Dinosaur Jr Whatever's Cool With Me CD Dinosaur Jr Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
Includes the single, "Whatever's Cool With Me", and 7 b-sides.
It's typical of J. Mascis' too-cool-for-school diffidence that he released the best song of his career as a stand-alone single (an item which hasn't been common since the mid-'70s) instead of putting it on a more-easily-promotable album. It's also entirely in character for that song to be a catchy pure pop tune covered in squalls of corrosive feedback, with lyrics about chronic indolence sung in a just-out-of-bed monotone. For all its tongue-in-cheek qualities, it sounds like the most personal, autobiographical song of Dinosaur Jr's career. Finally, it's all too typical that after crafting such a masterpiece, Mascis filled the CD single with seven tossed-off pieces of filler--including three noisy live tracks--none of which are actually bad, but which don't measure up at all to the standard of the title track.

$9.09 Historians of the over-hyped Generation X take note. What is perhaps the quote of the era has arrived, and it's not borrowed or cliched. The opening track of Dinosaur Jr.'s newest, WITHOUT A SOUND, embraces the standard of apathy that young America lives by in the imaginations and on the covers of national news magazines. "I feel the ...
