| | Enya Watermark CD Enya Discography of CDs
(8 Customer Reviews)
One of Enya's most popular releases, WATERMARK is an enchantingly dreamy album, featuring washes of keyboards and ethereal vocals. On the title track, the gentle piano melody mimics the sound of falling water, and Enya's multi-tracked voice cascades over the music like a calm wind on a rainy night.
The most memorable composition on this 1988 record is the hit "Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)." Marked by its keyboard-generated staccato strings and infectious vocal hook, this piece is probably the singer's best-known (and best-loved) song. "Cursum Perficio" features a gloomy vocal reminiscent of Carl Orff's CARMINA BURANA, while "On Your Shore," "Na Laetha Geal M'Oige," and "Evening Falls..." reflect Enya's traditional Celtic roots. WATERMARK is one of the finest New Age/pop crossover albums on the market, though its distinctive compositions transcend that label, making for much more than just a series of tranquil soundscapes.

Rolling Stone - 3.5 Stars - Very Good Watermark Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews She succeeded where Enigma failed Enya goes beyond the traditional stereotypes of the "new-age artist", and has crafted a masterpiece. This whole album feels like you're wandering in her native Celtic homeland, taking in the sights and sounds while seeing and experiencing all those old native Celtic legends as they wander in and out of your eyesight. At the same time, it is catchy, as shown in "Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)", but it isn't so catchy that it feels out of place or out of mood, even. Symphonically, I've never heard a better record. Even the quality of "Pet Sounds", one of my absolute favorite albums, falls far, far short when compared with this masterpiece. Enya created her sound on her first album, and she expanded it over the years, but never straying far from this winning formula, which, in all honesty, is simply amazing. Wonderful This album was simply breathtaking. Enya has always been one of my favorite artists, and this CD only heightens my appreciation. While I do feel Orinoco Flow is a little too hyped up, every song was equisite. A must have for any Celtic or Classical music fans. Submitted by Raven (Cumming, Georgia) Was This Review Helpful? Watermark
$15.15 Her otherworldly voice is trance-like in such songs as the tranquil "Shepherd Moons," "Angeles," "Evacuee," and "Marble Halls." Accessibly lilting, awash in synth strings, "Caribbean Blue" is this album's answer to "Orinoco Flow," ...

| | Paint The Sky With Stars: The Best Of Enya CD (1997)
Watermark
$14.69 Enya created a style whose wide open soundscapes were reminiscent of New Age, but more melodic, heavily based on the traditional Celtic music that formed much of her early singing career. This synthesis of styles proved marketable: the single "Orinoco Flow (Sail Away) was a global smash, underscoring the universality of her work. Its dramatic ...

| | Seamus Egan Traditional Music Of Ireland CD (1985)
Watermark
$14.65 Over two decades after this album was recorded and released, it's rather funny to look at the cover photo of Seamus Egan in his cargo pants with his feathered haircut and sweet, unassuming smile. In the intervening years he became a superstar producer of modern Irish folk groups and a highly sought-after studio musician, with a wardrobe tending toward black leather and no more on-camera smiles. In 1986 he was a new face on the scene, a remarkably talented teenage multi-instrumentalist who had already won all-Ireland titles on four different instruments. On this album he plays flute, tres, ...

| | Chieftains Wide World Over: A 40 Year Celebration CD (2002)
Watermark
$8.99 This a companion disc to a later release of 2002, DOWN THE OLD PLANK ROAD, celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Chieftains.
Additional personnel includes: Sinead O'Connor, The Coors, Ricky Skaggs, Joni Mitchell, Diana Krall, Sting, Linda Rondstat, Los Lobos, Erich Kunzel, The Cincinnati Pops, Elvis Costello, The Rolling Stones.
There are few groups so closely and unalterably associated with their home country as the Chieftains. These carriers of the traditional Irish folk torch had spent 40 years as Ireland's musical ambassadors by the time of this commemorative collection. On the one hand, they're unquestionably fine at laying down Irish tunes in the grand old style with bodhran and pipes blazing away (as on such tradition-minded fare as "Mo Ghile Mear" and the medley involving "King of Laois" and "Paddy's Jig." On the other, they've always been open to collaboration with artists from every corner of the music world, whether it's a former new wave hellion like Elvis Costello searching for his roots on "Long Journey Home" or countryman Van Morrison sounding entirely at home joining the lads for the evocative folk song "Shenandoah." As THE WIDE WORLD OVER makes abundantly clear, a large part of the Chieftains gift is in knowing how to mix the old and the new without compromise on either side of the equation.
Recorded between 1987 and 2002.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
