All songs written by Daniel Lanois, except "Still Learning How To Crawl" (Daniel Lanois/Daryl Johnson) and "Indian Red" (George Landry).
Superproducer Daniel Lanois took a rare turn on center stage as a performer on his second solo release, For the Beauty of Wynona. Released in 1993, the album follows his earlier release, Acadie. Unlike that album, which had some superstar appearances, For the Beauty of Wynona is a more low-key affair and has a more subtle impact. Lanois has a limited range as a vocalist, but he possesses a warmth that draws in the listener. Producing himself, Lanois also is an accomplished guitarist, although his protégé, Malcolm Burn, also adds some guitar as well as keyboards. The music is often moody and watercolored, but there are some more upbeat moments like the jaunty melody of "Sleeping in the Devil's Bed," which has a country feel, and the single "Lotta Love to Give," which is wispy but anchored by twang guitar and has a catchy chorus and serrated guitar solo. For the Beauty of Wynona is not an immediately striking album but rather one that slowly grows on the listener. It also proves that Lanois has something to say on his own. ~ Tom Demalon

Entertainment Weekly (4/2/93, p.52) - "...has the hypnotic power of a slow-burning candle....Lanois folds Indian, Middle Eastern, and African flavors into folk and laid-back, bluesy rock..." - Rating: B Q (5/93, p.96) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...captures the power of love and pain in a rough world..." Down Beat (5/93, pp.46-47) - 4 Stars - Very Good - "...a sonic marvel....the voice is so present and riveting, the heavily treated guitars burst through the mix with the urgency of a sniper attack, the rhythms are huge and mesmerizing, and the hooks are ever-present..." WRECKING BALL won a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Not many modern country legends have traveled through their careers with the wherewithal, grace and vision of Emmylou Harris. More than twenty years after helping Gram Parsons reinvent country with so-called "Cosmic American music," Harris is still tinkering with the genre's songwriting conventions and the sounds she uses to illustrate the words she sings. Enter Daniel Lanois: erstwhile protege of Brian Eno, producer to U2, Bob Dylan and Robbie Robertson, and a visionary artist in his own right who mixes the Louisiana ...

| | Ron Sexsmith Blue Boy CD (2001)
For The Beauty Of Wynona CD music
$13.09 While its an indictment of the shameful state of the music industry that a highly respected songwriter like Ron Sexsmith is unable to maintain a career on a major label, its a testament to Sexsmith's artistic vision that his eventuation into the indie world doesn't alter his creativity a whit. If anything, BLUE BOY is a marked progression for Sexsmith. Though it's produced by Steve Earle and Ray Kennedy, there's no evidence of Sexsmith "going country" here. Earle and Kennedy are perfectly attuned to Sexsmith's post-Beatles pop classicism. They merely highlight in a fresh, interesting way, as on the infectious opener "This Song," where Sexsmith's reedy voice is brilliantly ...

For The Beauty Of Wynona MP3 Album
$8.79 (MP3 Available for Download) After working his way through loss and chaos on the brilliant TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT (recorded in 1973, but not released until 1975), Neil Young deftly exorcised any lingering demons with 1974's ON THE BEACH. The album opens with the saunter of the aptly titled "Walk On," followed by the utterly gorgeous, Wurlitzer-tinged "See the Sky about to Rain."
The set also features a trio of scathing songs--"Revolution Blues," "Vampire Blues," and "Ambulance Blues"--that address issues ...
